i've never really been much of a group rider -- always been afraid that i couldn't hang with the group. anyone know of any slower group rides around the dc area? and hopefully some that will ride during the winter. i've just gotten too bored of riding by myself. thx in advance.

Potomac Pedlars has rides at all levels. Try a D or C level to start. These tend to be more social. You don't need to be a member to join a ride.
Check their ride schedule. https://www.bikepptc.org/
The Oxon Hill club is also good. https://ohbike.org/

I strongly suspect you are not alone and that there are other people just like yourself that would like to ride with a group. While the groups that were mentioned are very good you can always post a request to do your own ride and see if you can find others like yourself to join you. Here are a couple of other groups in the area that might be of interest.

Happy to meet up if it makes sense and we're about the same level. I often do Alexandria / Capital Crescent / Rock creek on Saturdays or Sundays. About 40 miles, takes me about 3 hours.

Like Adrien it might be nice to have a riding partner, most often I ride alone unless its a family ride. I guess the issue is whether we have a similar pace. I generally ride about a 12-13mph pace. I will probably try to do a February century if the weather cooperates, although I haven't settled on a route.

MDnewbie -- I'll ride with you if you'd like...if i bring my MTB i'll be at about the same pace, and i like to mix it up as different bikes use slightyl different muscles.
