Thanks, I'm trying . . . finally making some (slow!) progress, I think.

Yeah, you would think I would know it, after, what, two or three go-rounds so far? :) (I'll probably *still* type in the wrong number at least once, though! :p) I can't remember for sure if my sister said they would have it installed by this weekend . . . if it's up and running, I'll send a "Watson, come here!" message. ;) :D

Hey, GB, I was checking out your Monument-to-Monument pics on Flickr -- great, as usual! (Nigel posted a nice set on Facebook, too.) Looks like it was a fun ride, I'm sorry to have had to miss it. (And to miss out on maybe getting some original Harry artwork, too  -- those souvenir spoke cards looked awesome! :thumb:

Thanks, Max. We missed ya.
50 riders! whoa. M2M 2012 Pics are HERE

Loving life on the Capital Crescent Trail, commuting from Bethesda to the National Mall since they paved the trail.

cc_rider 06-08-12 07:35 AM

Anyone going to Tour dem Parks?

chefisaac 06-14-12 03:36 PM

I will be visiting Hunt Valley, MD next week and have evening free to ride. Anyone in or around that area? Would love to ride.

greaterbrown 06-15-12 07:55 AM

welcome chef,

not sure what kinda riding you're looking for- 10miles@10mph? or 50mi@20mph?
If you're looking for road routes, check bikely.com, mapmyride.com or ridewgps.com
Alternatively, you've got the NCR/TorreyBrown trail which goes from Hunt Valley all the way to PA (and further)
If you tell me what kind of ride you're looking to do, I can whip up a route for you. I know the area well.

Best. -Bob

I grew up in Rockville but have lived in DC for last decade. Anyone here doing the Sea Gull Century? It'll be my first century ride and I'm pumped!

greaterbrown 06-21-12 04:16 PM

Allez, welcome.
I did the Seagull many years ago. In spite of my worries at the time, I finished without issue, enjoying the route, the scenery, the weather and the camaraderie of 5k other riders. It's quite an event.
Many others here have done the Seagull.

No official Rando Ramble for July, instead two smaller rides:
1. Sunday, June 24th. Ride to the RAAM finish line. Carroll Park to Annapolis. Meet at 9AM
2. Sunday July 15th. Glen Rock dirt road ride. 65 miles. Very hilly. Very fun.

More info on the Ramble blog (link below)

Certifried, Draftmeister,

Welcome! I'm not an expert on Bethesda area, but there are a lot of resources you can check out.

Next Ramble is Baltimore to DC on Sept. 9th.
Details: HERE

The day before both the Balt biking club and DC Randonneurs have their Civil War rides. Gonna be busy up in Gathland.

atariwhizkid 09-06-12 07:23 AM

Anyone lose a headlamp at Penn Station in Baltimore?

I found a very nice one there today (9/6/12). If you lost it, or have heard who might have, PM me.

balto charlie 10-17-12 05:00 PM

Just a little bump. We need to resurrect this beast. With "word press", twitter, and facebook forum post become dinosaurs. Well here's to dino:beer:

greaterbrown 10-18-12 07:20 AM

woo hoo! it's like a party in here.

charlie, I tend to blame facebook more than twitter and blogging. It makes me mad.
I've learned so much fantastic information from total strangers on these forums. I can't count how many times I've searched for some detail about some bike part or local road condition, etc. and found an answer here.
Sure, that resource is over at facebook, BUT YOU'LL NEVER SEE IT because you have to be "friends" with the person providing the info.
Most likely they're a stranger who lives somewhere you don't. That expert will never see your question and you'll never see their answer. Phooey.

It's AOL all over again. And why oh why do I need to be "friends" with my friends? I thought I was already friends with them. WTF?

<stepping off>

balto charlie 10-18-12 10:17 AM

Amen brother GB. I just got some good info on cheap bike lights this week AND met another Balto commuter. The lights go @1300 lumen with batteries and charger for under 20.00. Sweet. I bought some for myself and commuting kids

No, it's not, really. What's over at Facebook is political rants  , pictures of cats :thumb:, and drama-filled oversharing of relationship issues :twitchy:.

It's not that bad, actually, but it certainly isn't the first source that pops into my head when I think I want to find out more about a certain topic. When that topic is biking, I'll usually start here. I haven't been very electronically active anywhere, lately -- I lurk on BF fairly often, and I quickly scan through FB, but I haven't been posting much in either place. I did put bike trip pictures (Memorial Day Eastern Shore and 4th of July Ocean City) up over there (pics seem easier to do there than here), but didn't write too much, except as captions to some of the pics. I've made it my pre-New Year's Resolution to post more bike stuff here on BikeForums!! :D

balto charlie 10-23-12 12:58 PM

@MAx: I agree Pixs are a pain loading onto BF. Great seeing you the other night.

Everyone: A great ride coming up in B-more. The Baltimore Bike Party, Portland has nothing on this ride. They are hoping to top 1000, yes, 1000 riders all in Halloween garb. Plus beer at the end.
