Any rides this week? =T.

Air 05-22-07 07:53 AM

Last minute but looks like I'm free tonight if anyone's interested.

Bklyn 05-22-07 01:12 PM

My belated thanks to jyossarrian and Air and 40 Cent for the excellent ride. A near-religious experience for me, catching that tailwind on the MUP under the Verrazano Bridge. Whew!
Air: I had a better idea for the next ride. Instead of running with that Pringle-shaped rear wheel and wearing your brake pads like that, how about you just pull a blocking sled with a Texan high-school football coach? Same friction, but with the added bonus of having the motivation that comes with an unending stream of verbal abuse. Think about it.

Welcome, 40 Cent! Now stay offa my wheel?

(And Jyo: Difara's? You definitely know your outer-borough pizza. Although I maintain that Totonno's might be better since we won't have to wait nine hours for a pie, during which time cramping can occur.)

jyossarian 05-22-07 01:33 PM

Well, I am from Brooklyn ya know. I have nothing against Totonnos, but sometimes I just want a slice. However, for nice weather, calling ahead to Grimaldi's for a pick up and eating it at Fulton Ferry landing or the park is always a good choice. And plus, the ice cream factory is right near by.

Oh damn - I've never thought of doing that!!! BRILLIANT!

:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

I don't know - you guys did a good job with the verbal abuse I thought ;)

By the way (from the Montauk threads) - got up to 112 on Sunday. Wheel went out of true a little, plus my riding buddy got tendenitis which slowed us down. When I stopped to help someone with a flat I got SAGed but at that point anything over 100 was frosting. Beautiful day and ride!

40 Cent 05-23-07 08:42 AM

Bklyn, while your tailwind was pushing you heavenward, I enjoyed the earthly scratchings of Grandmaster Air... wikkiwikkiwikki... Air, glad to hear Montauk turned out so well. I was thinking about you Sunday. And somehow, even though I'm afraid of it, our Nathan's ride left me wanting a spoke wrench in the worst way!

40 Cent

Air 05-23-07 09:02 AM

Did you like my *****ing too? :D

Went my my lbs yesterday since it went out of true on Sunday - they're going to replace the wheel. W00t!

Can't say *****? Beyotching?

Air 05-24-07 04:36 PM

Tomorrow night - hot dogs! Anyone in?

jyossarian 06-22-07 07:20 AM

Not a ride, but you can ride to Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn by the bridge tonight to watch Wild Style, the hip-hop, breakdancing movie from the 80's. Also of interest in the area: Grimaldi's Pizza, Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and Jacques Torres Chocolate. See ya'll there!

Air 06-22-07 09:44 AM

Thanks for the tip!

Also - tomorrow (Saturday) is the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. I'm going out there in the morning and cheering on all my crazy swing dancing friends (not dancing in it this year - want to watch the possibly last one before they knock down Coney Island :( ). Hot dogs, beer, and skimpy costumes...who could ask for anything more?

jyossarian 06-22-07 12:25 PM

Take some video Air! I was planning on going, but decided to go kayaking instead.

Air 06-22-07 04:22 PM

You know there's free kayaking in the Hudson everyday, right?

slvoid 06-22-07 04:32 PM

Yeah I've seen 2 of those free kayaking things by the bike path, what's that about? do you have to leave a deposit or something?

Air 06-23-07 08:53 PM

Nope - just get on and go. They'll even lend you a lock to lock your bike up to the fence while you're out and a locker.

They are sit on top boats, so you will get wet, but its very refreshing when its hot, even if its Hudson River water. The one at 56th St is weekend days and weekday evenings 5 to 7 pm. The one at 72nd St is weekends 9am to 5pm.

Hi. New to this forum and I'm just getting back into riding. I live in Staten Island . Any new rides that I can be part of ?

Here're my pics (If you know anything about the Mermaid Parade some of these are NSFW).

There is some video of the routine but I wasn't in it this time around. Unfortunately the music cut out and they couldn't finish it but they did a good job of salvaging it.

jyossarian 06-25-07 07:41 PM

What are you, King Kong? You're always carrying a girl in all the pics!

Looks like I missed a great parade, but then again, I was up in CT kayaking from island to island so I can't complain. One of these days I need to combine a long bike ride w/ a long kayak ride so both my arms and legs will hate me.

A big teddy bear. And can you blame me - the hotness never stops! At least no one looks at me ;)

Dooood - I'm so very in on that. Actually, I have two kayaks out on LI, how's a 60 mile ride and then a tool around Port Jeff harbor into the Sound sound? Followed by some meat on the BBQ natch ;)

Air 06-25-07 09:47 PM

That was actually my plan for my birthday by the way till I noticed I killed the new wheel - that not tensioned thing finally started popping spokes like popcorn in a movie theater. Luckily the replacement should be in but not enough time to do both...so a raincheck will be in order.

slvoid 06-25-07 10:01 PM

Anyone up for a picnic in prospect park one weekend?
Not this one cause I'm gonna be in point pleasant...

Air 06-25-07 10:47 PM

I'd be up for it though not sure which weekend yet.

That's kind of creepy the way you said it. I could imagine you with a top hat and a revolver...

Yeah, he'll carry me on his shoulders if I get tendonitis again...

Happy birthday soon Air!
