Philly area frame painting
I'm looking for a good frame painter in the Philadelphia area (I live just north of Phila in Montgomery County). I've got a project bike that I want to get re-painted, but would rather take it to and meet the painter than shipping it off somewhere. Any of you have suggestions? I'd appreciate them. Thanks.

There is a periodic listing on craigslist for powder coating. I can't attest to the quality as I've never had this done, but it seems as if a meeting would be possible and you could ask to see the guys work. Just go to craigslist Philadelphia page, bikes, then search for "powder coating". The post is renewed every week or so. Good luck and post some feedback if you do use someone local to help others in the area that might be looking fo rthe same service.

What about custom bike builder Steve Bilenky (www.bilenky.com)? I understand that Wissahickon Cyclery (www.wiss-cycles.com) is now offering custom-built frames, so you might conatct that shop about their painter. You might also check with LBSs; not far from you is Indian Valley BikeWorks, in Harleysville (guaranteedfun.com/index.cfm).

Thanks. I appreciate these leads and will follow up with them.

Incidentally, BSLeVan, I didn't mention this in my first response because I couldn't recall if he sends his frames out for painting or not, but Tom Kellogg, of Spectrum Bikes, is a wonderful custom builder up near the Lehigh Valley Velodrome. I checked the web site (www.spectrum-cycles.com/) and it seems that Tom does paint. His bikes look great, and the paint choices are endless.
