Eastern CT isn't too bad...Mansfield Hollow and the Blue Trail in the area (can head up to Storrs/UCONN somehow, but I never did it before). Goodwin Forest, and Gay City S.P. are also good areas to ride as well.

Hit up www.bikerag.com as they are a pretty knowledgable group of mtn. bikers in the CT area, and have a good handle on the trails and do group rides.

I'll second the bikeRag site. Lots of trail reviews. It depends on where you are I'm in Waterbury and there are lots of places around here. There was a race at Hop Brook two weeks ago.

30 mins from the Hartford area, you're pretty much set for riding. Check out bikerag.com, like the others said. If you use GPS, there is also a site called http://www.crankfire.com that's a CT MTB site with a lot of gps files and maps.

Mansfield

I also live in the area of the first poster, Storrs. There's a trail called the Nipmuck trail in Mansfield that would probably be good. I'm not certain that biking is allowed, but nobody would mind. There's also some trails around Mansfield Middle School that people bike on. If you go to www.mansfieldct.org there's probably info about the trails somewhere under the parks and rec section

My 2 favorite places are the resivoir in West Hartford. If you go past it there is a bike shop called Central Wheel and the have maps and also do evening rides there. Another place is Pennwood Forest near Hueblin Tower. The Res. is a bit more relaxed but you can put in a 15-20 mile ride there. Penwood is a bit more hard core, a lot of BC type terrain. Not my style, I like cross contry more than hard core. But both places have some great rides.

I hit up the WH Res last sat with a buddy, not to shabby. It was my first trail outing, i've been on the roads on the way to the tennis courts a number of times. bike performed great!!

def would like a bit more challenging, but I guess i'll get there in due time.
