I say we start as early as possible, then do the route twice for a double metric.
I'll shut up now.

I would also vote 9am at the latest. Last year was pretty hot, so getting an early start will give us a little more cool morning weather. Plus there is probably litle chance for ICE CREAM if we leave too late.
Ya know, I grabbed one of those at the start last year, and then forgot I had it. Ended up carrying it the whole ride and it was too hot to drink at the end.

I'm up for starting whenever too. I guess I'll probably end up leaving my house about an hour and a half early in anticipation of the traffic. (I'm coming from about 10 miles north of Lanc.) Hopefully I'll be able to go down some back roads and avoid the rt. 30 traffic.
How does the checking in and all work? Is there just a tent that you head over to and tell then you're name and whatever or is it more complicated than that?

And the line for the potties is pretty long at the start.

Wow, this group is growing nicely!
I'm happy for an early start this year; get the heat of the day out of the way. Considering the size of the group, maybe we should think about two meeting times - one at the start, and another in the afternoon. That way anyone travelling a distance won't have the pressure of the early start, but can still hook up with the group in the afternoon? We could even think about a general lunch stop time.
In the past years we used a banner to ID the group (which I still have from last year). Some kind of individual ID might be a good idea this year, too (i.e. tag on the jersey kind of thing).

This weekend I did the MS Bike tour for our local chapter - a century route Saturday, and a 75 mile route Sunday. The routes wound all through Lancaster County, covering the same territory and hitting many of the familiar routes from the Covered Bridge ride.
While this is by no means a mountainous route, and would barely be considered hilly, just be aware - the century route held 4992 ft of climbing (total altitude gained a whopping 100 ft), while the 75 mile route today held 3500 ft of climbing. Fairly flat, and nothing huge to climb - but factor in the winds across open fields and the wind tunnel effect between the cornfields, and I can feel every mile in my legs tonight.
And I'm already looking forward to riding with you fine people on those same roads again a month from now

What about carpooling? I live in Reisterstown, which is NW of Baltimore. I will be leaving the morning of the ride and can fit 3 passengers + bikes.

Ok so I will update the first post...let make it like this: Meet near the registration tent (to the right as you look at the tents, between them and the trail to the portapotties) between 8:15 and 9:00 and then wheels down between 9:00 and 9:15.
Everyone good with that?

D- If you don't get any offers, you can ride up with me. I'm (supposed to be) taking 2 others, but there is plenty of room in my big *** truck for one more person and bike.

Last year, someone took the lead and got phone numbers for everyone and gave their phone number to everyone so that if something happened the day of we could be in touch. Anyone taking up that role again this year? It should be someone that is going to be there early I'd guess.

I remember 2005 we waited a LONG time for a couple stragglers and didn't roll until 9:30, and most of the group finished around 4pm.
I personally vote for an EARLY start meet at 8-8:15, roll at 8:30.

Didn't we roll at 8:30am last year? And we were still late for Ice Cream at 3pm.

Of course I took a wrong turn on my way there last year and had to TT it to catch up
