Who got pictures of the huge skid marks from the crash?
I realized when I got home that I actually landed on my ass and have a nice bruise. I just thought it was from my saddle until I got home to take a shower and it was nice and red.
I think that after the crash is the first time I've actually been able to smell burned rubber from a bike. I'm also amazed that everyone could keep going after that wreck...it was regular people going down dominoes style in our "pace line".
Overall a good time. I was pretty impressed with our pace after lunch and after the crash. Defiantly the fastest average I've had over an extended period of time.
I also only got **** once for riding a Motobecane...ha

Wow!!! You greet ONE lady by riding up behind her and shouting, "Hey check out this hot babe's frame geometry!" and your reputation is sealed forever! (It's okay folks, it was a friend of mine who I've known for years.)

After meeting the BF gang and taking the obligatory photos it was a flawless start to a beautiful ride....for about 5.2 miles when I feel a wet left foot, removing my shoe only to find a red, bloody sock...not a good thing when one is a diabetic and has already had part of said foot amputated. At this, rather opportune moment, the SAG van pulls up and asks if I am okay, to which I reply "no." Well the fine gentlemen drove me back to the start where I hobbled over to the ambulance to have my ailing foot tended to, and (for once) using my better judgement, decide to forego the ride for the day..instead, riding with the SAG crew for the morning (and getting a free t-shirt for helping out. Altogether my ride was shot.
It's worth mentioning that the driver of the SAG wagon was named Neil. And yes, he did become excited to meet another Neil. It's a Neil thing, folks.

Well this was a perfect example of how a weekend can be both so fabulous and so disappointing. We (Neil Fein and I) arrived at The Historian's (Neil's...the other one) digs Saturday late morning. He lives in a beautiful area, next to a cattle farm....Black Angus anyone?

He lives in a beautiful area, next to a cattle farm....Black Angus anyone? Headed out to the Saturday Social ride and proceeded to watch as Neil Fein did a backwards half gainer while dismounting from his bike in the Quality Inn parking lot and twisting his knee...thus eliminating himself from the ride. At roughly the 200 yard point of the ride a driver, making a careless and rather agresive right turn, tried to eliminate the rest of us. It was an auspicious beginning, to say the least. This ride was when my bike decided that it needed an exorcism and would not shift into my small ring without the chain jumping off, so I had to cut the ride in half and ride back to the hotel with The Historian, thus ruining his ride. This was something about which I was not thrilled...Odds Bodkins indeed!!!

Did anyone get the password to check your pics from the official photog? I'm sure mine sucked, but I'd still like to see it.

Fun event and one I'd definitely like to repeat again next year, even if all the bridges weren't really covered.
First, easiest driving I've ever had going to a large event. The line wasn't even bad leading into the parking lot and the staff were tops with flagging the vehicles around to keep us heading the right direction. The on site registration was quick and easy, course was well marked (though with so many people, I just followed the crowd and never did look at my cue sheet) and the official and unofficial rest stops were great, even though I only stopped for a few minutes at lunch. Pretty neat that local residents on the route take the time to buy ice cream, watermelon and drinks to share with the riders.
I like the fact that there are so many folks and you can randomly pick up pace lines without much effort, though having such a vast difference in paces between those in line and those they are passing caused many an issue.
Met the group Sunday morning and we all left together, then while talking with folks near the back my wheel and that of another rider had a love tap while we were climbing and I flopped like a fish when I could only unclick one side fast enough. Hopped back on and finished but never did see the group again, then found out later that I crossed the finish first and somehow they were behind me. So much for the social aspect of the event. How I missed the whole group, I'll never know.
Here's the activity over at MotionBased. It was a pretty nice route with the balance of climbs and descents, though watching everyone walk their bikes up that incline before the ice cream in the middle was a bit disturbing. Ignore the lack of cadence, I don't get much practice on hills and kept standing rather than shifting to the smaller chain ring as I'm lazy, slow, and still new to this whole cycling thing.
While eating ice cream and cookies at the end, the Seagull Century was mentioned. Here's the BF thread and the official site for those that were asking.
Go to digiproofs.com and use "bridge07" as the guest password.
Again, nice to meet the folks that I had an opportunity to chat with.

I rode.
Wore the name tag Beth supplied, placed on my center jersey pocket. I wore my pink Team BBC jersey. Saw no one else wearing a BF.net tag during the ride.
Hooked up with two Iron Hill guys within the first mile. Sucked wheel until I could show that I could pull too.
We hammered out a 19+ MPH pace for the full monty. Passed a lot of people along the way.
Nice route. Not too hilly by Pennsylvania standards. I guess this relative to your equipment and fitness level.
Stopped in at the park afterwards for something to eat and to see if I could spot anyone else with a yellow BF name tag--no go, but did see others from my bike club.

Well my weekend of rides around Lancaster didn't quite go as planned. On the Sat. social ride I was nearly taken out by grandpa driving right into our group and on Sunday took a flyer over the bars at nearly 20 mph when someone hit the brakes in the paceline. Don't think it was one of our group though.
I was getting pretty stiff by the time we stopped in Roanoke last night but I'll be fine. Thanks, to grahny for riding in with hunyak and me as we had some bike issues to deal with and we both were a little sore riding. I skipped the ice cream at the end so I'm sorry that I didn't get to say bye to everyone. Hope to see you all on the road again.

we went, had a great ride and got very, very wet.
started around 9 and riode almost exactly 4 hours at an average of about 16.
looked for you guys but no luck...had I known there was a moto in the group i would have realized. I was the guy on the orange JTS with a Canada Jersey.
Hills were great -- I only have a compact double and it's the first ride where I literally used every gear I have.
Anybody having issues seeing the photos? I get a note about not ordering directly, but see no pictures...

I was the tall guy with the yellow TdF t-shirt(I forgot to pack my jersey) on the large red Paramount....I kinda stayed in the background, being one of the new guys.....
I've gotta say that this was one of the best organized rides I've ever been on. I had a great time meeting and talking to BF members throughout the ride.....I was wondering if I would see any of those little BF tags that Beth sent out but I didn't.... don't feel bad NoRacer....I just wandered from group to group that was assembled near the start and heard some forum names being thrown around and settled in with them....I think we left around 8:10 or so.....after that huge group pic.
I was saddled with a small problem that I discovered just before the lunch stop.....I found that when I shifted into the middle ring, I got a really bad grinding noise that had me take pause....I had the big ring and the 3rd ring, no middle....so...I was in the big ring for 90% of the ride, which was pretty much required as the group was motoring along pretty well .... The route had more hills than I thought it would.....when we hit a medium sized hill I got dropped pretty quickly, but made most of it up on the flats and downhills....gravity is both good and bad to me ..... The lunch stop was awesome! I never enjoyed a pbj sandwich so much .... and rarely do I get to enjoy Turkey Hill diet iced tea...mmmmmm!
I will absolutely do this ride again next year....hopefully I won't forget my jersey next time ... doh!

Did anyone else kill a pair of socks? Silly me wearing white socks...they are now grey socks. I soaked them for an hour in Oxy Clean and then gave them a run in the laundry...a little better but still pretty grey.
I may try bleaching them I suppose. Also feeling good today other than my lower back which has a dull pain going...mmm Advil.

THUMP-a THUMP-a THUMP-a
That's the sound of JugglerDave's potholed tire for the last 25 miles of the ride.
Somehow when I got past the BF crew who had stopped for a minor crash, I did a U-turn and simultaneously got a flat tire. Thanks to the helping hands of 10 BFers, a CO2 cartridge, and RoadToNowhere's best pump ever we got the tire changed and back on the bike in a record-setting 25 minutes, albeit with a mis-set bead causing the THUMP-a. No matter, I was able to finish the ride and get my allocated 1 ice cream. Not enough to juggle however, and by that time it was raining pretty hard.
The cool temperatures made the ride really easy this year. Or maybe it's the familiarity with the route, the stops, and the good company. Thanks to all who made it a great ride.
Oh, and that's the last time I take Rt. 30 home... 1 hour to go 5 miles, I just wanted to get back on my bike!

Hey Dave.....I enjoyed riding with you for a while.....I never did figure out what was wrong with my middle chainring....I'll put it on the stand and check it out tonight......you were moving along pretty good there till you had some wheel problems.....I could hear that thumping from about a mile away...

My bike computer showed a total ride time of 4 hrs 10 minutes, which is 12 minutes faster than last year.
I just ordered some new tires, since I have 3800 miles on this set and this was my second glass-related flat this season. If only I had thought of that 2 weeks ago!
