Farmington River Trail

I ventured out earlier today to check out the FRT for the first time. I got lost in Collinsville - I couldn't figure out where to pick up the trail once it enters the roadway. I rode over the bridge towards Arch St and it just seemed to end. Same thing about a mile in the other direction, where to trail ends up on the street once again, the sign says to follow rt. 179. I ended up going around in circles in the historic Collinsville area. Is the trail not finished yet in this area or am I just dumber than I thought? According to all the maps I've reviewed, the trail goes on for many miles until it reconnects back with the Farmington Valley Greenway.

Any help with directions would be helpful.
