Manhattan Bike Shops

I have a few hours to kill in downtown Manhattan tomorrow.

Are there six bike shops worth a look in?

NYC Velo in the East Village on 2nd Ave. Small but nice. I've had good luck with one mechanic there, not so much with another. They weren't especially fond of servicing my beater bike, but weren't jerks.

I've never been, but Bicycle Habitat on Lafayette seems to have it's fans and detractors.

If near 7th and 19th, Sid's other store is very nice. Much bigger than the main one, and lots of goodies to see.

Bicycle Habitat has a great website. Nice enough shop...haven't purchased anything there yet.

Gotham at 112 Broadway and/or TOGA at 110 West End Avenue. There is a TOGA at 1153 1st Avenue as well now.

N.B. Gotham is at 112 W. Broadway, not Broadway.

I'm not too keen on NYC bike shops. High prices and loads of attitude. If you just want to look, Cadence in Tribeca has lots of top end gear and are very nice people. And you can take the subway over to R&A and gawk at a lot of nice stuff - they will probably ignore you.

Attitudes suck. One reason I like Sid's; they're pretty down to earth which is a nice change of pace....

My bad.

I wonder which shops were visited?

I managed Sid's - on W19th - and VeloCity.

Both struck me as big-city bike shops ... nice stuff though.
