Mountain Biking near Washington DC
Hey all,
I will be moving to the Washington DC area in a few months and am wanting to find out what kind of mountain biking exists in the area (Freeride type stuff mainly).
I'm originally from the Denver/Boulder area in Colorado so I am used to some pretty rugged terrain and am hoping that I will be finding something similar around DC.
So does anyone know of any good websites about where the trails are or have personal stories/references of trails around the area.
Also, I am talking weekend trip distance wise, I don't mind traveling 4 hours and camping overnight to get to some good trails.
Thanks,

Hopefully you'll get more info from others, since I'm not a mt bike person, but there are lots of mt bikers who use Wakefield Park singletrack, just off I495 and Braddock Road. I also see some trails about a mile west down the W&OD trail from Rt 28. The local bike clubs should have more information as well.

Well just in advance, welcome to the area. I dont know how the routes around here will stack up to Boulders but their are some good ones. I am not a mtn clyclist myself only road, but I have a good friend that is and does a lot of racing. He normally runs his routes at Scaeffer Farm which is in Germantown MD, off 270 North. The route is maintained by local clubs that have put a lot of work into from what I have hear.
The link below will give you some details on it.

Wakefield is not too challenging, but it is close to DC.
Two Creeks is the one off the W&OD, just west of the stone quarry near milepost 30
Fountainhead Park on the Occaquan River.

Try going here https://www.more-mtb.org/ and join(free) they are a good bunch to get what you are looking for.
Roseryville State Park in Md. on rt301 has a good single track, I know it is not freeride like you want, but still a good ride anyway.Further down 301(south) is Cederville State Park with a easier single track but still a nice ridse in the woods if you want.
Welcome to DC.
I have not been but there but look here as well https://www.singletracks.com/php/trail.php?id=935 In Front Royal Va. Within your 4 hour limit.
I think with the 4 hour limit you can find some cool riding.

The trails the other posts are talking about are all XC trails if you are looking for freeride stuff there is Wisp resort about 3 hours away and also Snowshoe resort about 4.5 hours away. Both are great but I like Snowshoe better, more big stuff, depending on your skill level. But coming from Boulder I would think you would also like it better.
