52 miles this morning including my first time alone on some roads south of Concord I'd only ever done on group rides, and thus I was able to appreciate the scenery for the first time: Tower Rd, Glezen Lane, and so forth. Stop for bottle refills in Concord Center then up Strawberry Hill, Pope Rd, et al, around through Great Brook State Park and back via the Minuteman.
I've never been a cyclist anywhere else, but I refuse to believe we don't have some of the best roads in the country. And it's not even fall yet...

Looking good out there!

Well, I have outdone myself - participated in my first organized event and rode the longest ride ever. Did the Green River Tour route of the D2R2 (Deerfield Dirt Road Randonnee). Billed as 40mi but 46mi on the map, I ended up tacking on another 9 miles for a grand total of 55 - because why not! I was a little disappointed - there wasn't as much "dirt" or climbing as I envisioned - but it sounds like I have to go for the longer 100K+ routes to get that. The scenery wasn't all that fantastic either, but I might be 'spoiled' by having lived in the Pioneer Valley for 7 years.
Regardless, I enjoyed it much - did it solo and when I felt like I was getting bored I just dropped the hammer. I guess I underestimated my body's abilities and my newly-discovered fondness of aimlessly riding a bike for hours on end. Will try to do the 100K next year. As a consequence, I've been consuming everything edible in sight. Turns out cider donuts are a great post-ride ailment.
These are just the phone pics, I have some more I haven't pulled from my camera.

Bikes resting after a hard ride. Soooo much bike p0rn out here. Carbon is out, all the cool kids are into custom-built titanium or ti-carbon But there were quite a few oddities as well, like father & son on unicycles. Saw a Rawland and thought of @rholland1951

Sunday night I was tasked with taking my toddler daughter to a playground... and I though, hey, I just did 55 miles at a pretty fast pace (for me), but why not bike with her to Spy Pond, will be a change of pace for her from her usual playground and some recovery for me. Well, I thought she'd just want to get out at the playground, but she decided that she was content in the child seat after all, so we very leisurely explored a couple offshoot paths at Alewife which I have biked but never paid much attention to. All in all, clocked in another 10 miles.

How long can that sign have been there?? I pass by there several times a week and I haven't noticed it. Maybe because Mass Ave isn't bicycle-friendly enough to go about looking at all the tiny signs stuck to utility poles...

Started the weekend off with 45 miles on the Roubaix through Weston, Lincoln, Concord, Carlisle, Bedford and back.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5...Xlta2VIZTZqbHM
Today I racked up 68 miles on my 520 on the Vineyard and another 7 on the Shining Sea path riding to and from the ferry terminal. It was a prime location to ride the Smoothie but the lock and beach gear would have been a bit much for its bags. From Vineyard Haven I rode through Tisbury on State rd looping through Lamberts Cove rd. Riding out to Menemsha to take the bike ferry across to Aquinnah. The ferry wasn't open yet for the day or on Monday. Not sure which but I had to backtrack a mile or so and head toward State rd leading to Aquinnah. After that I rode down Moshup Trail and then to West Tisbury for lunch and coffee at 7A foods. Continuing on to ride the paths around and through Manual Cornelius Forrest. After circumnavigation the forest I continued onto Edgartown, then Oak Bluffs and back to Vineyard Haven for a lobster roll at the Net Result before getting back on the ferry.

Rolled out on the Ebisu for the customary before-dinner spin on the Minuteman, the sunset in my mirror on the return reminding me that this is, indeed, August, and the long, bright days are slipping away. A much-needed ride on a pleasant evening, nonetheless.

Super psyched to pick up my R3 with a new frame! I pulled the blue Boyd stickers off my wheels to reveal the stock logo color matched the new frames Cervelo logo.

Nice! That bike looks fast and easy to ride. (Even if it is a modern bike ) The white top tube sure is a standout though. So, like, ummmm, there were blue Boyd stickers covering gray Boyd lettering? (I know nothing about modern bikes. I do wish the "product placement" wasn't so garish though. I know someone who rides a "TREK TREK TREK TREK TREK TREK TREK", and that may not be enough TREK's.) At least Cervelo doesn't go overboard like that.
It is good the Cervelo replaced the frame.

I _love_ the white top tube. Never seen anything like it and now I want one. (I mean the contrasting top tube, though if it came attached to an R3 I certainly wouldn't complain...)

As for Cervelo replacing the frame, I've never dealt with them but I would have been surprised if they didn't. Reputations are usually built on reality. @Ghazmh, I imagine you are pleased as punch with that new bike.
Oh, by the way, I meant to comment on the Vineyard pics but got distracted by my beer. Very nice. Sharon and I took the ferry and rode parts of the Vineyard a looooooong time ago. No, I mean loooooooooooooong time ago. Your report makes me want to take the tandem over there and ride it again.

Yeah. I wasn't complaining so much as remarking. I've never seen anything like that either.

I am happier than a clam. I get a sexier new frame that matches my Roubaix's flat black, white scheme. I Scrounged up similar "positive outcome" reports from other R3 owners.

Out on the Ebisu on another preprandial ride, very low energy, more passed than passing. The Minuteman, and its Mass. Ave. crossing, were crowded with bikes, runners, walkers, skaters, dogs, the usual assortment, but tonight with a sprinkling of odd conveyances: an EliptiGO piloted by a young woman ran through peds and cyclists crossing at the HAWK (steady red), then ran the Mystic Ave/Mass Ave intersection against the light; perhaps there's a separate section of the Massachusetts Code for ElliptiGOs. Later sightings involved a tricycle-rigged bakfiets and an e-bike; no unicycles, velomobiles, or llama chariots to report. Here's a photo of the ElliptiGOgo crossing against the red light and in front of a red fire truck.

Thanks for the nice words folks! Being on vacation this week I've added a few more miles to Yesterday's and today's early morning rides. I've also started to leave at 5:30 instead of 5:00. It's no longer early June and 5:00 AM today really feels like 5:00 AM. Moon, crickets, and all. I really wanted to take the R3 out but the ground was very wet and I wasn't quite ready to sully it. Good thing because my Roubaix is coated with enough sand, grime and crud to make March jealous. 40 yesterday 42 today and hopefully 50 tomorrow. Out of town camping with the family after that until Sunday.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

For whatever reason, the energy that fled yesterday evening was back with a vengeance for this evening's ride. I zipped out to Lexington Center and back on the Rawland, just cranking along.
Earlier today, drove up to Portsmouth, NH, to take delivery of a frameset, a 59cm Ocean Air Cycles Rambler, purchased via the iBOB list; technically, this would be bike n+2, since I already had another frameset (an old Nobilette go-fast, also via the iBOBs) queued up. The Rambler may get built first, for a number of reasons (low trail, wide tire clearance, lively tubeset, braze-on mounted Paul Racers already installed). We'll see...

Clocked in 1200 feet of climbing this morning because why not. Not really a lot of climbing in the grand scheme of things but I was only out for about an hour and a half. Looks like it will be a fantastic day for causal rides but it was really chilly out there in the morning.
I had all the roads to myself!
