Fate of the Piscatiqua River Bridges Between Kittery ME and Portsmouth NH

There are three bridges that connect Kittery Maine and Portsmouth NH. The Memorial Bridge is the only one of the three that is open to foot or bicycle traffic. The Memorial Bridge is in desperate need of major repairs. It is the no. 1 priority of New Hampshire DOT and may have as little as two years of life left before it is placed out-of-service and the center lift raised and kept up until it is repaired.

Maine and New Hampshire DOT’s have announced the first of a series of six meetings to be held in Kittery and Portsmouth to gain public input regarding the Maine New Hampshire Connection Study.

This first meeting is primarily to inform us of the goals, objectives, and plans for the study. The DOTs and the consultants will want to hear questions as well.

Not to Hijack the post, but...

I was stationed at the PNSY in the late 80's. I owned a Suzuki Samari and was coming home on 95 going across that big tall bridge. It was late December about midnight, the temperature was in the single digits, and there was a gale force wind blowing across the bridge. No traffic, which was good, because that vehicle was like driving a box kit in a strong cross wind. I was more worried about keeping it on the bridge than in my lane. Just over the top one of NH finest pulls me over. He does the normal question stuff and then asks me to step out of the vehicle and starts with the "stand on one foot..." stuff. I try to explain that I have not been drinking and he won't listen, so finally, shivering so bad that I can barely talk, I just stick out my hands and ask to be arrested so I can get in his car. After 40 minutes of screwing around with the breathalyzer and silly questions I was let go, only to find that the damn car wouldn't start. Mr Police Officer then proceeds to push my little truck over the crest so it can roll down the bridge so I can start it.

My only clear memory of that area.
