Is this the entrance to the bikeway?

I thought I was on the Long Island Expressway Service Road, but the map says "Horace Harding Expressway" (I believe the Horace Harding predates the LIE, and the LIE was built on top of the Horace Harding).

Anyway, I was riding the LIE service Road Westbound, And I didn't want to ride a bicycle onto the Cross Island Parkway. So I made a left and went down the Douglaston Parkway. A short ways down, I found a bikeway, and turned right and followed it. I met another bicyclist who agreed with me that I was going in the wrong direction. But Google maps satellite photos show this bikeway to loop around , going under overpasses of the cloverleaf six times.

The darned bikeway starts nowhere and ends nowhere. It adds a half mile to the course I had originally mapped out.

And none of these bikeways are on any map. The best indication is when the satellite view and the street view line up. In the case of the above photo, the satelellite view is blocked by trees.

BTW, I went 14 miles, from Roslyn to Jamaica, and took the train home.

THERE IS NO SIGN, to tell cyclists that this is the entrance to a bikeway!

I would recommend that any cyclist traveling Westbound from Long Island on the LIE Service Road, would take this "Bike Ramp", to avoid being dumped into traffic on the Cross Island Parkway.

On the WEST side of the Cross Island, the Horace Harding is a dead end, but wait...

Actually, the LIE is the Horace Harding Expressway from Queens BLVD to the Nassau County Line. Always has been, still is. The LIE does not actually start until the Nassau County Line.

The service roads in that area are actually city streets, and their addresses are Horace Harding Expressway.

As for the bike path, I have no idea. Are you sure it isn't part of Alley Pond Park?

I must have picked this thread up in the middle somewhere because I'm not understanding the question...or if there IS a question.

The Cross Island bikeway begins at Northern Blvd and goes north to Whitestone. The pavement you show in the pic appears to be the entrance to a walking path that goes around a new, man-made pond that was put in just below the Douglaston shopping center. It does NOT connect to the path along the Cross Island.

The only ways I know to get around the Cross Island would be the following:

Heading east: Take the loop that passes the shopping center and dumps you back out on the LIE service road
Heading west: Take Douglaston Parkway north to 25A () and take that over the Cross Island Parkway. From there, travel west on 25A to the next leg of your journey.

Yes, I think it's part of Alley Pond Park. But I don't see where it goes , it doesn't go the whole length of the Park.
