Great pics...I really miss DC...was stationed across the river at the puzzle palace twice, then worked up at 15th & K for two years after I retired.

Spring's the best....

Thanks, Bill and scorch.

Scorch, I may have taken your picture already, but it probably came out blurry. If you see a guy towing a long trailer and pointing a camera at you, SLOW DOWN. Get in your drops and grimace, so it looks like you're flying, but don't really be flying.

MBT update

No new pavement since last fall. All the snow and rain certainly delayed progress. The section from NY Ave. to R St. looks to be ready for asphalt except for a little part at the north end of this straightaway which is still wet and puddled. Recently covered with the necessary substrate, it's packed down firm and flat and very rideable. I think today was the first you could have ridden the whole trail without fat knobbies.

Further along, retaining walls, fences, lights and railings are being installed.

It's unlikely that this section will be ready by the projected opening date of summer 2007. (Photo of a sign along the route.)

Perhaps this graffiti artist has a better estimate, 2013?

Not waiting for the no trespassing signs to be removed.

View from the bridge. RI NE, evening rush.

Anyone missing a Giant cross bike? Sorry dude, it doesn't look like that bike belongs to you. Tennis shoes and eggbeaters?

I apologize for so many pictures in one post, but I know some of you are interested in the MBT. I would have posted most of these picture as attachments if I knew how. I tried.

Love the photos of the MBT. I'm planning a trip up to DC just to ride it this summer. Maybe I'll get caught in your camera...

Tall bike on 19th Street

Tandem overtaking MTB on 15th Street

Bamboo bike parked on E Street

Big wheel unicycle flying on K Street under the Whitehurst.

Quit riding interesting bikes or suffer another picture heavy page that takes forever to load.

No worries, can never be picture-heavy enough, keep clickin' away so we can all keeping looking at new views through new, big windows (no attachments, please!) that you put up here. Great work

Yeah but that's a fine example of a blurred image of a shadow. Only included to illustrate the variety of riders who crossed my path yesterday. Thanks for your kind words, but I can't help thinking posting shots like that maybe a self-indulgent waste of bandwidth. Dude was flying though!...

Long bike on the MBT.

They sure did. So did all the other pollen-bombing trees around here. When the cars on the street look matte green, you know it's bad.

Yeah, I figured as much about the rider just by looking at that pic which I thought was the catchiest one on this page at the time and compelled me to respond in the first place. I'm a sucker for city shots and the stories they tell...How about one from Henri Cartier-Bresson, the man himself, from 1947, NYC...

More like NYC, although the diagonally-laid buildings a few blocks in the distance make me think it's DC.

NYC no doubt. Buildings too tall for DC. I replied before looking at the picture.

Well, the harder part is to evoke an emotion or thought with all that's depicted rather than the choice of object(s) depicted.

And, by the way; of course, HCB has his fair share of bike pics. But, I wouldn't wanna "waste bandwidth" showing 'em to you, especially after seeing how you didn't seem to think much of his other pic

That's more like it!

Henri needs to get a new camera, that B&W stuff is depressing.

OK, if you see the word 'dude' appearing in my posts that's a good sign that I've been drinking, Certainly must have been drunk to get offended when one of my picture is compared to Cartier-Bresson, but honestly his picture is in focus and while the figures are kinda dark, they are set against a contrasting (light) background. The tonal balance is in fact quite excellent, and I'm guessing he didn't have iPhoto to adjust the brightness, etc.

If he shot that from the saddle of a moving bike, I'm impressed!

MBT update

Fresh asphalt!

Retaining walls completed and backfilled.

Move over Rover and let Jimi take over.

I ran into the gal from Rails to Trails Conservatory who seems to be the person most involved with this trail. She was with a few other people picking up trash. I should have stopped and helped. She told me about a Grand Opening group ride on June 10!

I reckon not, but I'd bet she has a bike with snap-on pedals at home and shoes to match.

Or maybe not. Or maybe she just hasn't built her cycling tanlines yet.

I think it's seen some sun by being on somebody's back porch since before she was born.

Can't really say that, though -- the red frames of the SmartBikes are already pretty well faded.

Plus, she's got a pricey helmet, and is fit properly to the bike, so she definitely knows what she's doing (either on her own or by getting a decent fit done).

Nah, her wrists are bent and her elbows are locked. She's got a bit of work to do, but it's awesome she's out riding.

You're killing me with the MBT shots!
