Thanks, feel free to post any pictures you have taken on rides around the area.

A long time veteran of the DC streets, perhaps too much in focus. Haha.

Oh, and since the purpose of this forum is to make connections (which I didn't fully understand when I started this thread), don't feel you need a camera to participate in the thread. I don't think any real life connections (such as finding riding partners) have happened as a result of this thread yet, but I think I will probably do some rides with people who have posted here and I hope this thread can be a place for DC people to meet as well as a place to post about their rides, with or without pictures.

A DC general thread is a good idea. Bit like the "Where are the MD people" thread the Baltimore people have running.
You might want to edit your first post and add the new purpose of the thread.

Like the idea of a ride meet up. One of these days (probably spring) I plan to ride all the DC/MD stones, and wouldn't mind some company.

Isn't there a "Where are the DC people?" thread yet? I assumed something like that already existed.

That thread's in the Northeast forum. The BF staff can't figure out that although we're not really NYC/NJ (Northeast), we're also really far away from Florida (Southeast).

OK, I'll go first. Single fifty-something with tandem, looking for a stoker.

Sorry I haven't had time to respond to all of the private messages I received following that last post. Don't worry, everyone who responded will get a chance to pedal my bike.

I got a new camera. It's almost identical to my old one except it's not broken. Anyway, I took a bunch of pictures today. Here's a couple that came out OK.

Vermont and K

I overtook a group of 5 business men riding to a meeting on Smart Bikes. Two of them in front of the MLK library on G.

I really enjoy your photo-documentation of bicycle traffic in DC. Please keep them coming. Happy Holidays and stay safe.

Thanks, peace on earth, goodwill towards men, and the ladies, too!

If I had a van, I'd want Moe to tag it, but I have mixed feelings about publicizing the work of vandals. 12th Street NW.

Moe at least has style. Whoever put that red (konc?) on the driver's door is no artist and should go directly to jail. If it was my van, I'd paint over that.

Notice the "ATB" on the van, with an "ATB" bike (as I remember them being called twenty years ago) in the picture.

Incremental progress on the MBT. Notice more pavements and lights. I tricked this rider into following me onto the trail. This is the only other biker I've seen there except for the group ride.

The most willing subjects of my camera to date, these kids really got animated when I stopped to shoot them practicing ollies under the Franklin St. overpass.

Thanks in part to this thread, I've been avoiding K Street at all costs. However, while avoiding K Street, I got hit by a car on H Street. :-( Between 12th and 13th if you're curious on how to avoid the death trap! Now, I take Mass Ave, or I take M or L. I've also found a special affinity for Q Street and Rhode Island.

Ouch! Hope you're ok, Koffee.

K Street's not so bad on weekends. I'm often on it from Georgetown to 23rd and east of 12th Street. Only occasionally on the middle part.

These are great, as I've said before. Keep them coming! Koffee, I hope you're okay. In my six years of riding in DC, I was only hit once, and then only very lightly. I was crossing M at 34th in Georgetown in a crosswalk with the walk light, with pedestrians. Bimbo on a cell phone ran the light, almost hit a little old lady and did tap me. That little old lady really let her have it, so I thanked my stars and got back on my bike and kept riding.

Never had any trouble in NE DC once I moved up there.

It was insane. I was in the left lane getting ready to turn left, and the dood hit me from behind. Then the conversation went something like this:

me: you hit me!
him: I have a dent! Give me your insurance information in case there's damage.
me: No, you give me YOUR information in case I get hurt, because I can't afford to not be able to personal train.
him: Well, you shouldn't have hit me.
me: Dood, are you crazy?
him: Ok, ok... let's just both say we're sorry.
me: I'm not sorry. YOU hit ME. The only thing I'm sorry about is that you hit me.
him: Well, we were both side by side. So you hit me as much as I hit you.
me: No- I hit you because you hit ME, and when you made contact with me, it caused your dent.
him: Well, you hit me.
me: Dood, if you say one more time that I hit you, we will call the police right now, and I will sit on your car until the cops get here. You seriously need a vision test and possibly a drivers license test cause your driving sucks!

Well, after that, the conversation ended. Turns out I'm ok, but I'm a little freaked out about traffic right now. I'm constantly looking behind me.

Jeez, what a kook! Glad you're all right. I'm been tagged a few times, but only went under a wheel once, and it was just my elbow.

I was off last week and was planning on posting some old pics so no one would know I was gone, but then it snowed. So much for that ruse, no pictures with snow in them...

Caught in the act. A picture I posted on the utility bike forum a couple of weeks ago.

I spotted this today on Gwadzilla.blogspot.com.

Joel is the guy who gave me the idea to photogragh cyclists around town. He's better at it than me. I stopped to talk to him shortly after these pictures were taken and confessed that I've been copying him, (after Lola mentioned that I'd taken her picture). He didn't let on that he had taken a picture of me doing it! Haha

Pictures from today with a little bit of snow in them. Light traffic, notice no cars on L waiting for the light at Conn.

Messengers 'chilling'. The week before Christmas is one of the busiest of the year. The week after Christmas is the least busy.
