It might be my imagination since I haven't lived in DC for a few years, but it seems like there are more cyclists than when I left in 2007. That's great indeed.

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

^^^ I think that's true. When gas prices jumped, so did Metro ridership and, I would guarantee, the number of cyclists. They're common enough that I can't walk to my corner store without seeing at least one or two.

Happy new year, everybody!

Fewer messengers in DC but lots more bikers, for sure!

Obviously I only post pictures with bikes in them, so it's going to look like bikes are everywhere, but the fact that I stood in the middle of Connecticut Avenue confident that an interesting looking biker would soon ride by tells you something.

I was going to snap said interesting looking biker in front of a beautifully Christmas decorated shop window, but when I saw it was a girl freight biker talking on the phone riding no hands, I got excited and released the shutter prematurely, before she was in front of the pretty window. Haha. So much for my Xmas shot.

I try to go in early so I can take pictures of all the bike commuters, there's bunches of them, but it never happens. I can never be on time, much less early. I'll keep trying...

I went in late and left early today , so much for resolutions.

Wrong way on Rhode Island NE between Summit Place and North Cap.

A bank in the funky building that was North Office Machines for many years. Adding machines and typewriters. Bike messengers are becoming obsolete also. This guy, despite the bag and brakeless fixie is not a messenger.

Next door, 2121 K is getting a make over.

Rhode Island NE. AM rush. Zoomed in, I didn't realize there was a rider crossing on 2nd and I didn't see that car cloaked in blowing snow either. I was trying to get a picture of the climbing rider, flying up that steep little hill, I think he overtook me once last week right about where he is in this shot, if it's the same guy.

L street. That car climbed Mt. Washington!

Businessmen love the SmartBikes! Envious pedestrian about to be overtaken.

Isn't he sidewalk riding somewhere in the CDB?

Yes, in violation of the law!

Riding one handed, no helmet, listening to iPod. I prefer riders like this to stay off the road and out of my way. Haha

To be fair, I think he was getting ready to stop and park at the SmarttBike rack just ahead on that block (14th Street at H).

I got a ticket once for riding on the sidewalk from a bike rack to the nearby entrance of a parking garage where I could access the street. I was only going to ride about 50ft on the sidewalk, to avoid the curb. It's very unusual to be cited for that.

Keep up the great pics! I'm enjoying the show. I'm riding again now. My injured wrist is much, much better thanks to physical therapy and rest. I may start a similar Richmond thread...

tulip, I'm glad you're feeling better. Was that a biking injury? Recent? Hope it heals up good as new.

Thanks for the complements on my photos. When I looked back at the thread, I noticed that I don't always acknowledge the positive feedback, but I do appreciate it, that why I keep bumping up my own thread, er, I mean posting pictures here.

I took two picture today, one was in focus. Bus/Bike lane, 9th Street NW.

i know you asked for more great pictures, but that's all I've got right now.

Haha, yeah, looks like a snowball, but as you know there's no snow that color left in town. From the way he was carrying it, I think it was food or something else that might have gotten messed up if he'd put it in his purse.

I'm sorry I called his bag a purse. I'm sort of violating people's privacy by posting their pictures here to begin with. In most cases, they are strangers who have not been asked if it's OK. So I don't want to ridicule anyone. I think if the guy sees that jibe, he would take it in stride. Seriously, you need somethingb to carry your stuff in on the bike, and a leather satchel looks better than a tri-colored cordura messenger bag, in my opinion. Here's a nice one, with Brooks street cred, if you have a cool grand to spare. https://www.brookssaddles.com/en/Shop...r+Shoulder+Bag

tink20seven, thanks for posting the picture, post more. They can be from anywhere, most of the pictures I posted are of places further from K street than 18th and Conn! I'm glad you enjoyed the thread, thanks for the "awesome thread" comment!

First of all, I LOVE THIS THREAD! Thanks for the photos.

And second, those pictures of the met branch trail just made my day. Is that the bridge where the homeless people were living?

When this section of the met branch trail is complete, I'll be able to ride my daughter to school with a Trail-A-Bike. Right now, I don't feel comfortable crossing Florida or New York with my daughter on the back. And the bridge alongside the Metro station did me no good, because it ended in the homeless people's camp. I might brave it alone, but not with my kid on the back.

Oh boy oh boy I'm so excited right now. Maybe by springtime, the trail will pass through**********

Thank you.

Yes, expected completion this spring! That's according to the Rail-to-Trails people who guided the preview tour of MBT I took a few months ago. Homeless appear to have been displaced. My appraisal of the livability of that space changed dramatically when the Metro came through. VERY LOUD! It scared me! Hopefully they will find better digs.

It's very soft mud right now, not really rideable yet.

Putting on gloves.
