Thanks Cornflakes. Too bad I flinched a little taking the one from up high, outside the Altitude Room at the Washington Hotel. I took a couple clear ones from that angle, then got excited when I realized I had a cyclist in the frame. My eyes are actually quite bad and getting worse. I didn't see him at first and hurried to get the shot. Oh well, I still can recognize him, he's a messenger I see often. The red plastic bin is the giveaway. I didn't recognize him until I got home and looked at it on my 13in laptop screen!

Another dispatch rider, in front of the Verizon Center. F Street.

Excellent news on the Met Branch Trail. Wow, that's going to be so great! I remember some dedication/ribbon cutting/ceremony thing...when Anthony Williams was mayor. That was a long time ago.

qmsdc--say hi to the neighborhood for me! There should be some flowers blooming in my old yard in the next few weeks if you need a little springtime. I planted a bunch of early bulbs on the front slope along the sidewalk.

I don't usually check regional discussions so I had missed this thread. Great photos. I moved away from the D.C. area some time ago. I'd agree that there are a lot more cyclists on the streets. I'm glad to see that. Has the crack down on aggressive driving worked (started before I left)? I hope so. It had gotten so bad; people were doing insane things. I still remember when the head violinist for the National Symphony was shot and killed one evening by another motorist whom he had passed.

Oops, I thought you knew about this thread. Sorry I forgot to tell you about it. I know you like to see pictures of your old home town.

Not sure about the aggressive driving issue. They seem to be giving me a little more space now but it's probably because of the trailer. (Don't want to kill no Amish people!) Or maybe I'm giving them less space. It's not safe to share the lane with DC drivers. it's akin to sharing a CARE package with starving Haitians. I know probably some people starved to death or worse because they got stuck behind me and could not pass for twenty seconds or less, but well, too bad! I'm a heartless bastard "One less car!". Put a memorial by the side of the road for each one who didn't get home in time for dinner and I'll shed a tear every time I pass by.

Thanks, but don't encourage me to post "series", I'm trying to limit it to one picture each day. Haha.

Interesting series. One doesn't see many commuters and lay people riding the streets around here.

A lot of people are not wearing helmets.

Thanks, Vol.

I remember scoffing at your thread about the cold and snow putting you off the bike, but well, heh, I wimped out big time this week. I rode a few short trips, but stayed home from work. I did see one biker, with a trailer, riding to the store I was skiing to, but I didn't have a camera. It was in Maryland anyway, which isn't in the Southeast, though I have slipped a few pics from the free state into this thread.

Finally made it back to the District today.

I only see her when the weather is bad. The opposite of a fair weather biker, this part timer fills in when the regular crew is not up to the task. She can carry a lot more than 98% of the other dispatched riders can. Running the red, Connecticut and K.

Great Thread! Thanks for the pictures. Very inspiring.

Makes me think we ought to do a "Day in the life" thread across the BF world. Could call it something like The world on 2 wheels, some tubes and a chain. Pick a date like an equinox and try to get BF people on all the sub-forums to shoot pictures of the bikes in their day. Post in the General Cycling Cycling sub forum.

What do you think? Has it been done? Could be a lot of fun...

Has it been done? I don't think so. Can it be done? I don't know. I'll help you make it happen. I think the Vernal Equinox, March 20, 2010 would be a most auspicious occasion. It's a Saturday.

Thanks for complementing my photography. I miss most of the shots, lots of blurry images, most of the ones I post aren't really that good, but I'm glad people enjoy looking at them.

I been thinking about this idea and have decided I'll run it past a Mod, probably Tom Stormcrowe, for input. I have a feeling it could be a little like herding electronic cats. Could be really cool though. Thanks again.

I thought if I could get this rider and the Red Bull car in the same frame, it would make a good picture. I tried to get in front, it was no problem catching the car but the rider dropped me... 18th and K.

The photos in that post might not be completely urban. Some of us would be shooting pictures of our bikes that escaped urban captivity and now wander in the lovely, remote, wilderness to which they fled. (Had my bike not escaped captivity in D.C., it's highly unlikely that it would have ever been on the streets for gmsdc15 to take a photo of it. It preferred the many bike trails in the area since cars aren't allowed on them.) I readily take my hat off to all those who ride the streets of D.C. or any other major city. It's intimidating to share the streets with that many motor vehicles.

I hope it would not be completely urban. In fact, I would be disappointed if most are not from beautiful non-urban places like NW Montana (or Rock Creek Park in NW Washington). You have jumped in with comment, I know you will bring content as well (as you always do) if this "Day in the Life" of Bikeforums thread happens. You have started a lot of interesting threads and have posted nice pictures of biking in your neck of the woods. Thanks, keep up the good work!
