For the record the rider in the previous post was not the Geico cave man, who happened to be in town Tuesday, filming a commercial in front of the White House.

Haha, just kidding Vinny, you look more like a real cave man than that silly actor ever could.

Welcome back, CC rider! Glad you're feeling better. Nice pictures.

I took a couple days off from work, and today didn't take the camera out until I was heading home. Funny how I can usually get a decent picture on the way home when I'm rolling out with nothing to post. Rhode Island Ave. again, but this time in NW.

If you are looking to get some nature shots, the last two times I've ridden there, I've seen a pair of bald eagles sitting in a tree on the far south side of the golf course (potomoc side), down near Hains Point.

Interesting.

Signs of Spring. This week I've seen many Robins, a flock of geese heading north, and a few Roadies in their colorful plumage riding to and from Haines Point.

Waiting for a bus.

Almost every picture I took today came out sort of blurry. Cold, rainy day. I did not see any Roadies in their plumage riding to or from Haines Point today.

Kinda hard to ride Hains Point when parts are under water. Of course, you were writing on Friday when the rain was just starting.

Some of the other racers got frustrated because was he wasn't a "serious rider" -- he just liked to go out and have fun riding as fast and hard as he could.

He's got a few bikes, including a Specialized road bike (steel, I think) and a Jekyll mountain bike. The one time I spotted him on the street without him stopping to talk, he was spinning the hell out of that Jekyll like a kid on a BMX.

About a month ago, I had heard that he was in the hospital after getting hit by a car, and that he'd be back out a few days after that. I haven't heard anything since, though, so my (hopeful) guess is that he's back on his feet.
Some good news. I ran into Kenny today. He was hit by an SUV but he is OK. He needed skin grafts. His Fuji was totaled. (He volunteered the info about his bike's damage, I had to ask about his injuries.) He did not get back on the bike until last Sunday, an "easy" 60 miles. He mentioned something about being "out of shape" but also something about "35 to 40mph on River Road". He was his usual happy smiling self. He is considering racing the Wednesday Greenbelt series this season.

Thanks for letting me know he was hit. Otherwise, I would have just nodded and said hi. As I noted before, the virtual community creating real connections. I never even knew his name before you posted about him here.

Coincidentally enough, I saw him this morning. I was driving (a rare occurrence anymore, but I'll be leaving my car on the street after work so my gf can use my garage spot) and our paths converged at 2nd and East Capitol. He passed by, and we both turned down Pennsylvania where I caught up to him.

Hey Kenny Mac!
"Hey... Oh hey man!"
I heard you were in the hospital!
"Yeah, for a little bit!"
You doing okay now? (keep in mind, he's cruising at an easy 20-23 mph as he's pacing me)
"How does it look like I'm doing? I gained about 25 pounds, too!"
Is that a good 25 or a bad 25?
"It's a good 25!"
Cool, seeya later!
"Alright man!"

He was wearing some Cycle Life kit along with a neon green wind jacket. Your earlier pic showed him in a Capitol Hill Bikes jersey, which is where I met him, and a good chunk of their staff has migrated to Cycle Life (and Bike Rack, and Arrow, etc).

WOW! loving this thread!!! This is the kind of stuff we as cyclists need to put out as a "you can do it too" kind of message so folks who are turned off by the "flashy costumes" can see everyday folks doing everyday stuff.

Great story Barracks.

dingster1, I'm glad you found this thread. I agree that anyone can do it. Although calamity finds it's way into the thread, we tend to recover. Cyclists are healthier and live longer on average than non-cyclists, even though some of us get run over. Getting run over isn't always the end of the world, my elbow went under the tire of a Cadillac but it didn't fracture. I did have to take more than a month off, but it's as good as new now.

Cars kill indiscriminately. Bikes aren't dangerous, it's the cars that are dangerous. Sedentary lifestyle kills more than cars probably. I don't know the stats, but biking enhances life, I know that much. The quality of life as well as and more importantly than the length of life.

Everyday people or kooks? Your call.
