Route to City Island, Bronx from Brooklyn?

Tour de Bronx is rained out, so some friends and I want to do our own ride to City Island. Anybody know the best way to get there from downtown Brokklyn area. Prefer to go through Queens directly, but if we have to go through Manhattan is OK also. Just can't figure out what bridge we can cross to get to Bronx. Thanks.

You can use the (ugh) JFK Triboro. Catch it on Hoyt Avenue North in Astoria, go around Randalls Island, and then use the section that goes to the Bronx. Maybe it won't be too awful if you're with friends.

Thanks. I've crossed Triboro on the last NYC century, but I don't remember a way to Bronx from within Randalls Island. Is it clearly marked?

Having a NYC Cycling Map really helps at times like this. I did it once, several years ago, during the NYC Century. From what I remember you get off the first section of the JFK Triboto, go counter clockwise around the island, maybe through the parking lot, under a sort of colonnade, and then up a large concrete ramp that's marked "to the Bronx"

The NYC Cycling map shows a second route alongside the Amtrak tracks on Randalls Island and goes straight into Port Morris.

I seriously dislike the Tribourough and avoid it if at all possible. I have ridden from southern Brooklyn up to VCP and I would suggest you go that way and then cut across the greenways in the Bronx. Take the Hudson River greenway up to northern Manhattan until it ends then take Seaman to West 218th to the Broadway bridge into the Bronx. I ride on a street that is a block or two west of Broadway until you are up by Van Cortlandt Park. Then you can follow the greenway through VCP down Mosholu Parkway to the Bronx River Pkway and then across Pellham Parkway and all the way out to City Island. Have some fish for me and enjoy and stay dry.

I've read there was a bus that ran across the Bronx Whitestone Bridge that carried bikes between Parsons Blvd, in Queens, and Ferry Point Park, in the Bronx. Unfortunately it no longer appears on the NYC Cycling Map so I have no idea if the busses still have bike racks or if that route even exists any more.

Make it easy on yourself. Take the #6 to Hunts Point and ride along the Bruckner Expressway to Pelham Bay Park and connect to the bike paths or # 2 to Pelham Parkway and then head east to Orchard Beach.

It's very clearly marked --once you know where the sign is located. When you come down the ramp onto Randall's Island from Queens, get on that road on your right and just stay on it to the north. You'll see the FDNY Training thing on your right and the Manhattan span on your left. Keep riding as the road curves to the west and you'll see the span to the Bronx. On the right (east) side of this span is a relatively steep ramp that takes you up the to Bronx-bound span. Eventually, you see the sign!!
