Beautiful day for a ride today. I didn't go all that far but I did get to explore some of the little pocket parks near Sutton Place and ride Harlem River Park, between something like East 134th and E 143rd Street. Also discovered there's virtually no bicycle parking at the new East Harlem Costco. Stopped off at Fairway to pick up some dinner and took my usual scenic route back downtown along the Greenway. All of this in a short sleeved t-shirt and pants. Why would anyone want to miss a day like that?

I've discovered through skiing that if I just simply keep the extremities (especially fingers, face and ears) warm then I can take extreme cold weather conditions. Perhaps heated gloves, earmuffs and balaclavas are in order?

Great November Sunday

Pappa Tom, I hope you got and rode today. I was suppose to ref a bunch of indoor soccer games, but I bailed after two and let my son ref the rest. It was just too nice for November not to ride. I didn't do anything special just about 30-35 miles meandering around Brooklyn. It looks like most of this week will be decent for commuting. So wait to bring that bike indoors.

I made it out today, a few loops of Prospect Park then out to Williamsburg and then back via the bridges through Manhattan. Not that many miles, but enough to satisfy me.

Went in circles in Prospect Park for a awhile yesterday. At one point two roadies that I was hanging near to break the monotony almost came to blows--I'm not sure why, but it dampened the mood a bit. Can't pass up days like that.

Sunday morning on Eastern LI was no fun for biking. We left Greenlawn at 9 in light fog but no rain. By 10 it was lightly raining, and by 11 it was raining hard and very windy. That stuck around until just before 12, when the sun came out - 5 miles before we were back in the barn.

It was a rough and dangerous 55 miles. But, there is nothing like riding in bib shorts and a short sleeved jersey in the rain and wind in 55 degree temps to keep you alert. Especially at 25 mph in a group of 15, none of which can see any better than you.

The surprising thing - no close calls, no problems with traffic, and no one had a flat tire.

It took just less than 3 hours to ride 55 miles, and just over 2 hours to clean up the bike.

I see you're in Sysosset...join the Long Island Bike Club.
They ride every Saturday and Sunday and have different levels of rides.
I'm from Brooklyn and normally ride 9W, but some of the people I regularly ride with are members.
Last week I did a ride with them from Westbury to Lake Ronkonkoma.
Great ride, nice people and a reason to get out and DO IT.
I ride with the LIBC B group. Since I only ride once a week I missed you last Sunday as I rode Sat. The B group rode yesterday, a 61 mile ride from the lot in Westbury to Northport and down to Bethpage before going back. To the OP, don't give up so easily. I am 61 and had a total hip replacement 10 weeks ago. Yesterday was my longest ride post surgery. The group rides all winter. So unless it is snowing or raining and the temperature is expected to get to 30 degrees during the ride some riders will show up.

Way to early to put the bike away. I live in PA now, born and raised on Long Island. I rode this past Friday and Sunday and will ride a few more times this week coming. Get yourself some warmer cloths, stop making excuses and ride.

Bikes: The same GT Outpost Mountain bike I've been riding since 1996, although I modify it throughout the year for commuting, touring, and recreational riding.

>>>I hope you got out there today. 60 degrees and sunshine!!<<<<

Today, I'm dealing with "political" nonsense having to do with the community holiday lighting event I organize every year. Out the window, I see a beautiful day blowing away with the wind. Tomorrow (Saturday) we install our town Christmas tree and menorah. Hopefully, there will be some time - and some good weather - to ride afterwards.
