Cape Cod Rail Trail in November

Anybody been out there lately? Just wondering what it's like. I might be able to do a 50+ mile ride Saturday. Not looking for company - guess I'm a soloist at heart ...

Been out there every weekend, some areas have a lot of leaves and pine needles on the trail, but overall very nice riding

I found the Cape to be quite cold in the Fall. That breeze that is so refreshing in August is so raw in November
it chills you to the bone.

I went out on Saturday and did the length up and back 44 miles. got lunch in South Wellfleet General Store and coffee - that hot coffee was just what the doctor ordered! I under-dressed but I made it back to my car alive. I just ordered a nice light so I might try the trail at night sometime - just for kicks.

Ah this sounds interesting. I will have to try it out, maybe this nice weather will stick around another week or so.

The rail trail is nice during the offseason. Gotta dress for it, though -- as stated above, that wind is mean at this time of year.

Forget cycling-specific gloves, I go with full-blown winter gloves.

how crowded is the trail in the on-season? I rode the Providence/Bristol East Bay Rail Trail today and it was littered with pedestrians, hard to get above 10mph w/o hitting someone

I have never been much of a fan of these trails. The only bike trail I can recall using was sections of the one on Martha's Vineyard, and even then I'd prefer to ride on the road itself. Maybe it's just me, but I worry more about pedestrians, runners, rollerbladers, and moms pushing strollers than I do about the cars and trucks!

mtalinm ~ I tore it up yesterday. my computer read 16 - 19 mph most of the time. average for the whole ride was low but I had no trouble reaching and maintaining speed at will. I agree it is annoying to pass people who don't know how to stay right. some even insisting that you pass them by riding through them. STOOPID! I'm thinking of getting a bell!

I ride the whole thing then add miles on the pond roads in Welfleet or you can do it in reverse - starting in Wellfleet

yesterday's ride:
56.7 miles
26.9 MAX
13.3 AVRG
4 hrs 10 min saddle time

exit 9 A off route 6 coming from the canal for the South Dennis parking lot. just remember i's cooler out there so bring pants; base layer and wind breaker. be prepared to ride hot in shorts and t-shirt and then add layers where necessary.

best way to avoid people is ride early or late. but I got a late start yesterday and had a great time from 2:00 - 6:00!
