GWB to Bear Mountain Loop on 4/9/11

Yes, I'm planning the ride for this Saturday. I'm thinking of meeting up on the GWB at 9:30AM. Anyone like to join me?

heads up, Perkins was closed last Saturday, with Rangers making frequent gate checks. Hopefully with the warmer weather this week, they'll open it up.

Mind telling me where exactly Perkins is at? I always ride up the 9w, but never knew certain spot's name. Also, I haven't done this loop before. It's always up bear mountain by 9W and back down that. Is coming down on the east side of the river as simple as just going down the 9W? All I have to do is just go down route 9 right?

By the way, after crossing the bear mountain bridge, do I make a left and head up bear mountain hwy like the website say, or I can just make a right and go through bear mountain bridge rd to connect back to the 9?

It would be nice if someone can provide me a google map version of the map.

Perkins Drive is the summit road to Bear Mtn. It won't stop you from doing this loop, I just meant you may not be able to go to the top, if that's what you're aiming for.

I live in the 'burbs so I haven't done either the out-n-back nor the loop. However I think you'll find route 9 much busier than 9W, as it heads through quite a few small mainstreet river towns.

I recommend following the Roberts cue sheet after crossing the bridge. You could turn right up rt6/202, however it's a bit of a twisty climb with fast traffic and no usable shoulder to speak of. I'd consider it with a group, but I wouldn't feel safe doing it solo.

Roberts has maps at the bottom of the page -

have fun!

Ok cool, thanks for the info. Don't think I would be going up the mountain since it's my first century of the year.

So, anyone interested in doing this with me?

Did a similar ride today. About 78 miles RT from the Jersey side of the GWB.
