Also, many in Bedford are unpaved. (It's Westchester's low-rent neighborhood....)
About the hills, a random arc connecting the Hudson and the Long Island Sound crosses the Saw Mill River, Bronx River, Byram River, Hutchinson River, Mamaroneck River, and Mianus River. I left some out and I skipped lots of brooks and streams. There are no mountains but all those watercourses means yep! Lots of ups and downs, and some gradients are formidable. In Putnam County, immediately north of Westchester, the only surfaces that are flat are the lakes and reservoirs.

50 ft/mile elevation is a definition of flat around here.
BTW, Bedford and nearby has lots of nice places for gravel riding. There is a Dirty Apple ride in the Autumn in this area: https://dirtyappleride.wordpress.com/

I recently came across the roads in Bedford from following Black Oak Velo bike shop on Instagram.

My son lives in Stamford, Ct. and we sometimes ride up that way.
