Route 9W alternatives from Englewood Cliffs going North

9W is decent except that 2 mile section when one first gets on it (coming from the GW Bridge) to go to Nyack/Piermont/Bear Mtn. The no shoulder section with cars zooming within a couple of feet at 50+ mph is somewhat nervewracking.

Any suggestions for bypassing this particular stretch? (Besides River Road)

Looking at google maps, there's E Palisades > N Woodland > E Clinton Ave > 9W

or

... > E Clinton > Engle > Hudson > County > Hillside > 9W

Also rode with a group once back from Piermont and we took a nice route west of 9W through local roads. Not sure exactly what it was. Heading south from Piermont, is Piermont Road > N Dean St a decent option?

Cross 9W, right on Floyd, left on Van Wagoner, right on Johnson, right on Sage, left onto 9W. Going south on Piermont is fine and flat but you might want to take another route back up the hill as E Clinton has a lot of traffic.

From Hudson Terrace I'll usually make the left on Palisade then pass 9W and make a right at the first light which is Summit then take it to the end and left on Lycrest to the end and right on Woodland (which was just repaved), right on Buckingham, right on East Clinton, Left 9W which will put you on (W right at the beggining on that shoulder. If you're going north you can also stay on woodland till the end and make a left on East Clinton which is a nice decent and take that into County Rd/501 which will merge with Peirmon Rd and still be 501 and become 340 in New York and merge with 9W right before the turnoff for Ferdon. Usually I'll take the back roads coming back south through tenafly and englewood for a more scenic ride and to make the climbing a little eaisier. I'll make a left on Hudson, right Magnolia, Left Hillside, Right Serpentine, Left Westervelt, Right Engle, Left Woodland Park Drive to end, Right on Leroy (not sure if theres a sign), then left on Churchill which is a steep climb then right Woodland, Left Lyncrest, Right Summit pass E Palisade and go down the big hill then it curves and becomes Charlotte which will bring you to Hudson Terrace after a little climbing, make a right and head back to the GWB.

Thanks. This is my standard route now. Much more enjoyable than the 9W start.

Will try the other suggestions. Maybe next time out.
