Belt Parkway bike path by Plum Beach still out of service

It's been a few years now since a storm washed away a section of the Belt Parkway bike path by Plum Beach. Does anybody know of any plans to restore it? I envision the city/DOT saying it belongs to the National Park Service and the NPS saying it is a city owned road, and neither doing anything.

I went through there a few weeks ago, and it is a route to Rockaway Beach that really needs to be fixed.

Google had some news:

https://www.sheepsheadbites.com/2011/...y-as-december/

This was last January:

https://assembly.state.ny.us/mem/Hele...n/story/45927/

Then this:

https://www.brooklyndaily.com/stories..._02_17_bk.html

Has anyone ridden this section this year ?, and has there been any work in progress ?.

Curious as well as it's my bike commute route.

The Army Corps of Engineers work on Plum Beach is delayed to the fall:
https://www.sheepsheadbites.com/2012/...delay-project/

While funding hasn't been secured, hopefully sometime next year they'll green-light the bike path repair:

You can always just salmon up the Belt Pkwy a little bit.

One Saturday morning last winter, I saw some shady looking guy riding an old bike on the Belt, no joke. It was on the east-bound stretch between JFK & the Cross-Island Pkwy. He was pedaling on the white line on the side of the road... I mean, he couldn't get any farther over! But I guess he didn't want to ride on the grass.

Cars doing 60+ two feet away, honking, etc. I couldn't believe my eyes.

I had the pleasure of going to JFK today and it looked like the path is completely ridable from Knapp St to Cross Bay Blvd

Maybe from Flatbush to JFK, but certainly not from Knapp. I had to walk my bike over my shoulder just 2 weeks ago on the way out to Fort Tilden. Yea, you can ride it in the sand, but guess what sand does to your parts.

Went today along the belt all the way from Knapp to Cross Bay. They've replaced two of the bridges and they will be really nice to ride on. Right now there is still some temporary path, but it is good to ride all the way through. I did a loop from just south of Prospect Park, down Bedford, onto the belt, out to Cross Bay, into Rockaway. I rode a little on the Boardwalk and then back on the streets out to Riis and out through Ft Tilden then up Marine Park bridge and back to the belt. 36 miles in all, totally flat except for the bridges.

As of 8:30 am on 7/30/12, the plum beach portion of the bike path is still out.

Maybe now things will finally happen a little sooner rather than later.

Yup

What baffles me is why the city can't simply put down a simple 6 or 8 ft wide path of asphalt, just as a temporary measure. The sand is impossible and getting worse. A year ago I could ride thru here on my commuter with 32mm tires. No longer.

I just carried my bike across that stretch to and from a ride to Rockaway.
I've seen people riding on the entry lane on the Belt and tried it once.
INSANITY! DON'T DO IT.

Just think how quickly it would have been fixed if the roadway had washed out. Do ya think they'd leave it as sand to drive through?

It also looks like the NYC Century will go that way as usual, unless they detour onto Avenue U, the first other street that goes through. That'll be a lot of people walking their bikes over.
