Holy cow, she actually rides her bike and doesn't just talk about riding on the internet all day.

Mforrington, I'm sorry to have made light of your inquiry. It is common for folk to post something which raises more questions than they mean to, and then disappear into the internet ether. Thank you for not being one of those.

For those of us who live in the NYC area, it makes no sense to make Summit, N.J. a waypoint on a trip from Maine to Long Island. That you found a route planner which suggested such a thing is pretty funny, and it says a lot more about them than about you. (I wonder if they'd expect you to get from Lubec to Eastport by riding due north. I mean, it's barely a mile of wet riding, vs 25+ on the paved roads. )

Again, I'm sorry you were disturbed by the responses to your query. I hope you have a great trip.

Totally off the subject, but....

More like 40. I've done Lubec to Eastport and this section of Maine is so totally devoid of civilization as to be scary at times (Like Stephen King scary). Especially in the fog. I saw a LOT of trees and not a lot else. I kept worrying about getting hit by a car (had F & R blinkies, still) but there were not many cars.

You can, if your timing is right, ride to Campobello, then ferry across to Deer Island, then ferry back to Eastport. If your timing is off, it's faster to ride the 40.
