Boston-area road bike rentals -- advice?

I'm trying to find a place to rent a road bike (not super high-end but not crap) in an odd size (48-50cm mens). My LBS is Harris, and they don't do rentals. So far, all the places I've called have like 1 or 2 bikes for rent, and they are all way too big. It seems like the way people do a rental shop is by offering a single 58cm bike with Sora :-/

Can anyone point me to a shop that might be able to rent a proper bike, or suggest any other way of finding a bike for my friend to use on a road ride with me?

Did you try Urban Aventours? They have a big rental biz as well as a shop.

Wow, they are twice the price of everywhere else I've seen ($75/day). I will call and ask if they have a 48 in stock, though...

Cambridge Bikes was a pretty cool shop, but I don't know if they do rentals.

Ferris Wheels in Jamaica Plain rents out Fuji Crosstown bikes. $20 for 4 hours, $40 for 24 hours.

I'm trying to find a somewhat decent road bike--my friend already rides a "comfort hybrid" like the Crosstown and I'm trying to show the difference a real road bike makes on longer rides.

Oops! Perhaps I should have read the whole thread & title...

Back Bay Bikes does rentals of bikes, but they're a bit pricey. I am not sure if the two sizes I can see listed are all they carry, but it's worth a phone call.

Talk to Jeffrey Ferris, the owner, at Ferris Wheels; he might be willing to wheel and deal on a road bike rental. Or maybe not; still it might be worth giving it a shot.
