Frederick, MD to Lexington, KY

Hi all,

My wife and I are doing a self-supported cross country ride leaving in the middle of May from Baltimore. We'll be camping and relying in the kindness of strangers. I'm hoping for advice in our route. I'm aware of the AC routes and have chosen not to go in that direction.

Below is our tentative route from Frederick to Lexington. Let me if you have idea for better routes between these two places. I'm hoping that we'll be to manage the C&O trail with loaded down bikes. I know that there will be a detour around the Paw Paw Tunnel becuse of the dirt slide.

Thanks in advance for your help,

No problem on the C & O or GAP with loaded touring bikes. Have done it a number of times with 32s.

C&O seems out of the way for where you're going. A nice out of the way, I'll grant you. I suppose it's flatter further north.

edit: my bad. I see you're dropping back south at Cumberland. very nice.

I'm not sure how much a rush you both are in, but you may as well go south on the Baltimore to DC, then take the W&O to urceville to Skyline drive then turn west at Blacksburg. More parks and views.
