Sandy Hook NJ is open

Rode there today first day open since the storm. It was a little rough had to dismount several times due to sand or construction.Every one I spoke to was glad to have it open even though its still under construction.no power or food only portajohns for now.

Is this a bike path? I was curious if a road bike would work here or is it MTB only?

A rode bike works here. But you will see every 2 wheeled contraption known to man. There is a paved blacktop path and the road is an option but parts of it are under construction now.One lap is about 10 miles. The ocean on one side and the bay on the other.Great views, NY skyline,Navy ships, light houses, fishing boats, bird sanctuary, nude beach in summer.I said great views right! Its a 50 min car ride for me and worth the trip.I attend 2-3 times a week. Now that I think of it I it I'm Going tomarrow. There is good fishing here also. And you can always count on the wind to be in your face both ways.Btw if you want to MTB there is a trail in the woods about 1/8 of a mile away Heartshorn woods.

I rode that last year with my wife. It is (was) definitely road bike friendly. We took the Seastreak ferry over from downtown to the Highlands, rode over, then took the ferry from Sandy Hook back to Manhattan. It was a very nice day. We stopped for lunch at seafood place along the way, spent some time on the beach, the only hill is the bridge over. The best part was that it was a weekday and we were both off from work.

Great news. I usually take the Henry Hudson trail from Keansburg to the Bayshore trail to Sandy Hook.

Are the HenrynHudson and Bayshore trails open for riding?
