NYC: Looking for Road-Riding Buddies
All, I posted something similar a while back on someone else's thread, but didn't get a reply. Giving it a shot here.
Anyway, so I'm in my early 30s, decently experienced road rider, full-on clyde, not in super-great shape but can hang. I'm not interested in hyper-competitive racer-types, or people who have no tolerance for bikes that cost less than $5k. Looking for some chill people who like to ride road distances (25-50 and up) at a good clip (I'd put myself in the B16 or B17 categories of the NYCCC). My goals as a rider are fun, fitness, improving my riding, and maybe some nice scenery.
I live waaaaay uptown, so people in the Wa Hts/Inwood/Riverdale area would be awesome, but really, anyone who wants to ride would be welcome. Sick of riding on my own.
And no, this isn't some weird, camouflaged personals ad. I'm married, monogamous, and want to stay that way.
Reply to the thread or PM me if you want to ride.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. But it seemed like maybe the NYCC crowd is a bit older than my age bracket... I was hoping to do some socializing with folks in the 25-40 year-old range on top of riding. Am I off-base here?
(No slur against older riders. You guys are awesome, and many of you kick my ass daily. May your knees always be supple.)

Plenty of riders of all ages in the club. Their escape ny event ride is coming up next month, although you'd be riding on your own with 1000 others.

You have to pay to access that NYCC site, right? What's the reasoning behind that? Is it worth it?
I'll meet up for a ride after Labor Day - I'm off to Italy with the wife for vacation this week.

I knew you have to pay like $25 for a year's membership. Not so sure about the site itself.
The weekend after labor day I'm doing the NYC century. Maybe 9/14 or 15?

of the group rides can't be seen by non-members. For me the membership fee is well worth it.

I just moved back into Manhattan and might be able to meet anyone here for a 25-50 mile ride. I have a car, too, and could drive us and our bikes somewhere to start and end a ride outside NYC.

I'm in the West Village, though I plan to get all around Manhattan.

I'm trying for the full hundred, but riding with my dad, so he might not be feeling it. I'm not sure if registration's closed now, but you might still be able to sign up. I did 55 miles of it last year, and it was fun, not too strenuous. I think the hardest part might be up in the BX, where it's decently hilly at times.
