Poll: New Name For The Bethpage Bikeway?

I'm not sure it's an official name, but the bike path beginning at Bethpage State Park and ending at Merrick Road in Seaford is known to most people as "The Bethpage Bikeway." Now that the extension to Woodbury Road in Woodbury is nearly complete, I notice that we are starting to call this section "The Bethpage Bikeway Extension."

By any name, this paved path is an awesome addition to our local bike network. However, I think it's about time it got a new name that better describes the acreage and scenery it takes in. I'm unable to create a poll that allows participants to write in their own suggestions, so I'm going to ask that you please submit your ideas as a reply to this post.

If we can all agree on something, I will see what needs to be done to take it to the next step. If we can't get the name officially changed, at least we can reserve the new name as our little secret!

Ca't let this sit for so long with no reply. I vote for the "Poppa Tom Expressway".

Cool, well then the overwhelming majority votes for "The Papa Tom Expressway." We should get the paperwork going on this as soon as possible.

Seaford-Oyster Bay Bike Path ?.

I mean the actual Seaford-OBY Expressway doesn't go to Oyster Bay, yet that's what we call it, so why not the same for the bike path ?.

In all seriousness, the name Bethpage Bike Path works fine as A) The original section follows the BP Parkway for most of it's length and B) The extension starts at BP State Park, if you use the standard map nomenclature of a road (or path in this instance) "starts" in the south or west.

Or we could call the existing as the Bethpage and the new as the Trailview as that's the park it's technically part of.

Papa Tom Expressway sounds better.

So if we apply the same standard as the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, we can probably get away with calling it the "Cross Island Bikeway." Ooooohhhh, I like that.

I believe Trailview park was originally the right of way for the Seaford Oyster Bay's extension that never happened. Anyway I like Bethpage Bikeway, both the name and the path itself.

Trailview is on the right-of-way for the Bethpage Parkway extension that never happened, not the SOB. The intent was for the parkway northern terminus to be at Caumsett State Park and there was land purchased as far as Rt 25A in Cold Spring Harbor. The Lloyd Harbor folks said no. The ROW and planned route is apparent on Google Maps.

Too late...the Atlas Map has been printed and all future desktop globes will denote the bikeway as the "Papa Tom Expressway." You guys should have spoken up sooner!

Anyway, when's this damned thing going to be finished?
