Bike commuting to Manhattan from central Long Island ?

I will be moving to long island from Riverdale this summer. I love biking -- currently I commute to work in Midtown almost every day. My current ride is virtually traffic free as I get on West Side Hwy bike path on the northern tip of Manhattan and continue south for 10 miles.

I understand that this will be impossible to match. However I do not want to give up cycling and would like to bike commute from long island at least twice a weak. I am ok with multi modal as long as it does not take me more than 2 hours to get to work. I generally cruise at around 19 - 20 mph.

I was wondering if anyone commutes to NYC from central long island? Any tips, recommendations? Does anyone want to start/participate in a riding group similar to the one in Ridgewood? www.
