Greenbrier River trail in WV...

Looking to ride it this coming Sunday, but am unfamiliar with it.

Question about the surface for anyone who's ridden it: I read that "wide tires" are recommended. My buddy has a hybrid. Is that gonna cut it?

Thanks!

How wide are his tires?

I have done some reading about the trail as it is part of ACA's Allegheny Mountains Loop, which I have toyed with riding. 32c should be o.k. Last year I rode the entire GAP with camping and cooking gear on 32c Conti Touring II tires. While I have never measured them, word on the street is that Contis tend to run narrower than advertised. I had no problem on the GAP.

BTW...I would pay attention to how much rain the area is getting this week. A big rain event have been moving up from the SE. Areas just outside of Philly could get more than 3" starting tomorrow.

Disregard the tire issue...my friend has decided to ride his mtn bike.

We're riding the trail on Sunday, so I don't think the rain we're getting right now.is going to be an issue.

Depends. If there are poor drainage areas you might find some wet/muddy sections, especially if there are scections where the trail is surrounded by hills. After a heavy rain, water can seep down for days.

Good luck.

I've used my mtn. bike with 1.75" tires but I have seen road bikes with fairly skinny tires on the trail.
