If I do the "long" route which is 29 one-way, it's a lot of bike lanes in Brooklyn and the length of Rockaway Beach Blvd. Of course in summer I have to deal with what I call the "Rockaway Wrong-Way's", the folks on beach cruisers who can't understand the concept of south side of street for eastbound bike traffic, north side the reverse. They have a bad habit of coming around a bend without looking, from a crossing street and right into your path headed the wrong way. I've had some near misses. Out of the total 28 miles, I'd say about half is bike lane, bike path or boardwalk, then in Nassau it's all twist and turn thru back neighborhoods to avoid main roads at rush hour. I do get a kick out of a mile section on Edgemere in The Rock's where I pass countless cars stuck at lights that have no reason to exist as there's no cross traffic, I just cruise past and hope no NYPD is in a mood to give tickets. Typical NYC BS. All in all, it's a tolerable ride and better by far then driving.

Beauuuuutiful weather for commuting all this week. Ahhhh! I really hope this job lasts forever. I can't imagine not bicycling to work on days like these.

Really ?, woke up to rain this AM. RAIN ?, haven't seen any in a while and haven't had to not ride because of it either.
Happy to see it today as I'm spent after a boatload of miles in the last 6 weeks, so got an excuse to take a morning off the bike.

Yeah, today (Saturday) kind of bites, so far, but yesterday more than made up for it.

It's sunny and cool in Massapequa. I'm finishing a short ride.

I took the SuperX since i don't care how dirty it gets.

What a change! We slept late-ish, walked about 5 miles while it was still dismal looking, it cleared up while eating lunch, and then we couldn't resist a short 26 miler because it was suddenly so gorgeous out.

What a beautiful day to be on a bike !. Did a 33 out of BP early with one buddy and his daughter, who is slowly getting good at being a roadie.

Did some hills, showed Naomi the West Hills - Sweet Hollow ride and explained how the area is the most haunted on L.I. Then off to Greenlawn and a loop back.

Started out thinking how cold it was (53) then remembered that if I had my druthers, 55-60 temps are about perfect.

Jeckyll and Hyde ride... went to Tobay. With a strong north wind it was mid 20s in the big ring going down. On the way back it was 15mph in the small ring. I saw that I had a "PR" for Cedar Park to Jones Beach.

Unfortunately i saw flashing lights ahead and someone crashed on the decent of the southern most bridge heading north. Even on a MUP you have to stay aware and be safe. I hope she's OK.

Dammit. Worked last night, working again tonight, was too damn tired to ride this morning, so I went to bed so I'd get up in time to walk the old pooch. He was happy with this decision. Wife walked about 7 miles while I slept.

Dammit.

I got a windy 15 miles in before the rain.

I took the CX bike and it's a joy to ride on rough roads. It just eats up the bumps.

OldnSlow, every time you put up a picture of the SuperX I like it more. I reach for my CX bike most of the time I'm not on one of the tandems, unless I know I'm headed for a hammer-fest with fast riders.

Currently I'm using 28mm GatorSkins on the CX and on the steel tandem, and wouldn't mind going bigger on both. I have plenty of room to go to 32 on the CX but the tandem is very very tight. I might be able to get a tire that measures 31-32 real world mm in there. On the other tandem I have 700x32 GatorSkins that actually measure 34.5 mm, way too big.

I don't suppose you have a set of calipers.....I know it still wouldn't tell me what they would measure on my rims....

Wow, that was FAST! Thank you, but, alas, too big for the big bike. I guess we're stuck with 28mm on that one.

Might still switch the CX to those, though.

Bontrager makes 30mm tires.

Also I have mine on Zipp 30 Course wheels so they are pretty wide rims.

I couldn't find any Bonty 30mm tires. The 28s are fine, and going bigger might actually not be great idea given the very limited clearances. When we got our first tandem I used 25mm, shudder. I've just gotten used to the secure feel of the 32s on the other bike.

Thanks for getting out the calipers though.

The weather was threatening but it never rained... just some drizzle. Took a short ride before the break for the Jewish holidays. Built up a good sweat but didn't feel it until I stopped.

Damp & dreary this morning. A couple of us had intended to ride out to Stony Brook, but we were joined by 3 more friends who didn't have enough free time for 75 miles. So we scaled back our ambitions & cut it to a 47 miler to Kings Park so we could stay together. An oldie but a goodie destination-wise. High recommendations for the bakery at the corner of Old Dock/Pulaski Rd and 25A.

A good time was had by all......and the sun came out shortly after we were done.

Gorgeous Indian summer afternoon. Took a late in the day trip up to Caumsett and had to race the lengthening shadows coming home. The setting sun is a relentless opponent but I made it back with daylight to spare, very thankful for my bright Cygolight blinkie. I meandered a bit up in the CSH area and made it 50 miles even.

"Today was a gift.....

It sure was....about 1.5 miles, no fish, 0' of climbing. (Although I had to carry him up the stairs back to the parking lot.)

Today, started out humid & FAST....after 14 miles of 22-27 mph, 3 of us pulled over to shed layers and wait for some who had fallen behind. They missed a turn & never appeared, so we turned down the pace and had a pleasant 45 mile ride to one of the riders home, where we played with Henry the dog. A good ride today.

It seems I don't have the time for long rides, but was able to get a quick 25 in before the rain and back with enough time to cut the grass.

The rain gave me the opportunity to finally clean the CX bike. The Emonda got a cleaning also.

Was hoping for the rain to stop. Then thought about going out anyway.... Then I looked outside again and out on a football game.

Tomorrow is another day.

A flawless diamond of a day. Well, almost.......failed to convince spouse to call in sick. Oh, how I tried.

Went to Caumsett S.P. again, and tooled about on some of the dirt roads in the park. They are do-able but a bit sketchy in places on 700x28c road tires. 52 very nice miles.
