Is it really November? A beach day!

OldnSlow will recognize the pond location. It's about 200 yards from my house.

PS. I've re-thought my opinion on kickstands. Now I carry this one wherever I go.

Yes, definitely. The other day Mrs Kaos took off, & we gave the bike a rest, & hiked around 6 miles in Caumsett. Muted colors on the trees & muted sun.....I think it's beautiful in its own way.

First cool morning ride today, but it warmed up (& got windy). 47 miler to Sea Cliff. When we descended from the "downtown" area by the Sea Cliff library down to the shore, it felt like a 10 degree drop in temp. Very hilly ride. Am hoping to keep the tandems on the road through the winter......

Long pants for sure, but still a nice day to get out. 5 guys and one fair lady, 38 miles.

Sun filtered through high clouds, woodsmoke in the air......good ride today.

Bad day for my car.

Got rear ended by a garbage truck and pushed into a F150.

If I was in my Beetle... i'd be DEAD.

A bit sore, but happy to walk away. Already told the dealer to find me another, same color and options.

Glad you’re OK.

Wondering how to buy those wheels from you, they might fit my ‘17 OB. Could use a set of winter wheels with Subaru TPMS.

The car was totaled and is now owned by the insurance company. I already ordered a new one and hope to have it soon.

Yeah, kind of figured that was going to happen. Too bad you canít salvage the wheels and tires, if they fit your new car, itís a cheap way to have a wheel set for dedicated snow tires.

More trouble that it's worth. The old ones are 17" and had to have straightened 2 already from potholes. The new ones are 16" so i hope they can handle the roads here.

I can buy a wet of 16" alloys and snow tires for $1100, that's less than one Zipp 303.

Yuk, Yuk, I never thought of it in those terms !

My wife fell in love with an '11 Impreza Outback Sport. Unlike the other Subaru's with the "Outback" moniker, the Sport wasn't lifted and used low profile performance wheels and tires. 2 dented and repaired rims later, as well as about $200 more for tires....... at least she's now using the LIRR.

Am I among few that intends to ride through winter? Anyone stay on a road bike during January and February? I might like that but I am going with a mountain/touring bike. Do group rides go on during the coldest? How does that usually go, if at all?

I ride all year long. I have a CX bike with 32mm "all season" tires. I think there are small group rides leaving out of Bethpage.

If the temps are below 35, I'll go mt. biking.

If there's snow anywhere I'm in the pool and exercise room.

I'm good to 25*, anything lower and it hurts to breath.

If it's wet, I don't go out below 36*... you can find ice in the shady corners where it's colder.

I ride all winter just to keep up the discipline and to stay in shape. But I sure don't like it. In winter the act of riding is work; in the summer it's a joy. That's why I have ridden 1000 miles in July for the past five consecutive years (twice hitting 1100), while I struggle to get to 300 or 400 miles in a winter month.

I typically don't skip days just on account of the temperature. There are enough days to skip due to snow/ice and rain; I can't afford to start missing riding days due to cold as well. The coldest weather I have ever ridden in is 9 degrees. It was awful. (Whereas, the hottest day on which I have ever ridden, a day of 104 degrees, was great.)

When it gets below freezing, I bundle the F up on my chest and neck, wearing many, many layers of shirt and sweater. I even wear layers of gloves. My legs are the last things that get cold; I can wear shorts in weather as cold as the low 30s.

I know that climate change is a disaster for the planet. But I am willing to accept mild winters with days in the 50s and 60s, and very hot summers with 90s all the time.

Only managed 25 yesterday. Windy as heck.

Waited until late morning, & we went out with another couple of tandemistas. Not a pretty day and a stiff headwind coming home, but good company, and lunch on the road. Only had time for 32 miles, alas, but a good ride.

Hi Eric,

I don't know where you are located, but MPBC road rides (originating from Bethpage) go on year-round, although numbers of participants goes down. Rides begin at 9am.....check the website.

A number of us MPBC-ers opt for trail riding when it gets colder. It's a lot easier to stay warm (read-out of the wind) in the woods. Weekend mornings see decent numbers of riders around 830 or 9am at the picnic area parking lot in Bethpage St. Pk and other popular trailheads. These tend to be more ad-hoc affairs among friends rather than organized club rides.

Hardest part is getting out the door.
