Headed out at 6:00pm for short ride. Just needed to get out and clear my head so at 6 the weather was only miserable and not oppressive. Rode up to the LIE and back for 20 miles @ 15.9mph. Wasn't supposed to rain but had a few drops for the last mile. About 15 minutes later it started pouring and lots of lightning.

Just glad I didn't get caught in it.

Great 48 mile ride this morning with the Borella AA group. Those young fellers can turn the cranks! (At 58 I'm sure I was the youngest of about 10 riders). Got entertainingly lost in Glen Cove in our quest for St. Rocco's Bakery.

I recently noticed that a bike path (separate from the road) has been laid down alongside the Nesconsett-Port Jefferson Highway going east. It seems to start around Hauppage. Anyone know how far it goes or how far Suffolk County intends to go with the path?

Sounds like the Port Jeff. - Wading River path. 13 miles or so, it's taken jeers and jeers to get approved. Finally was and got funding a few weeks ago. Google it, there's been news articles about the silliness,

County hopes to complete Mount Sinai-to-Wading River bike trail by 2020 - TBR News Media

Did another 25 mile early evening ride... with a twist. Got my first flat in a year and a half. No problem, I only need one tire lever to pop the bead off and no tools to reinstall. A few minutes later I was on my way and finished my ride.

Man, I am tired of sweating. Mrs took the day off, so we took a somewhat short-ish 35 miler to Oyster Bay which in these conditions was more than enough.......we stopped at a nice little place called Sweet Tomato, next to Billy Joel's motorcycle museum. Shared an ice cold açaí bowl which may be the trendiest thing I have ever done.*

Things pretty quiet around here.........

Finally some downright cool temps! 4 of us did a 34 mile sunset ramble from Roslyn last night. 17 miles of utility cycling was all I could manage today, too much to do so did my errands w/o car.

Did anyone read the NY Post column in Sunday’s paper? A columnist named Steve Cuozzo wrote an article lambasting cyclists. He stated among other things that “ NYC should stop coddling young white bros on bikes”. Aparrently he claims he was nearly hit by a cyclist last week.

I've been off the bike for a few weeks but i'm back in the saddle again. I did 150 miles over the past 3 days and my body is punishing me for it. The weather was just too nice and I needed to clear my head with some hard work.

Had a Kaos Joe (and Mrs. Kaos) sighting by the traffic circle at Bethpage Parkway. I was taking a break from coming from Tobay and they passed by. I rode up but they went to Bethpage and I turned ino the part to continue to Cold Spring Harbor.

Holy Moley, I didn't recognize you with the beard! Sorry, we would have stopped......

We slept in and rode solo to Westbury, did a lap around the SUNY campus (not my best idea, it appeared to be move-in day or something) and then home for 36 miles.

Hope whatever kept you out of action is behind you.

I saw that article and thought what a tool! According to him only young white guys ride bikes in the city, he must be lost how can you say that about NYC?

Stubbornness pays off.

9 of us met at 830 in light rain, stood around BS-ing under the trees until 930, and set off into a slight drizzle. Rode out of that into dry conditions, and had a nice 36 miler into Glen Cove and the Saint Roccos bakery. Several jersey pockets were stuffed with biscotti for the ride home. Great destination.
Tomorrow I get to clean a tandem from end to end.

Made my second group ride today. I rode the "B" ride with the Huntington Bicycle Club to St. James. I wanted a easier ride after a hard solo ride on Friday and Saturday.

40 miles @ 14.2mph.

Using different. Muscles.....

we did back to back 44 milers this weekend, nothing unusual, no ill effects, not particularly tired afterwards. Then I helped my brother paint some fence. All that bending and crouching, and now I'm semi crippled!

Went out and wandered west to Merrick and stopped at Merrick Cycles. The owner is a really nice guy and they had 3 mechanics working in the back. Headed north on Merrick Ave through Westbury. Lots of traffic and i'll avoid it in the future. Worked my way through Brookville and Oyster Bay. Headed home and found they are repaving Round Swamp Road from the firehouse to the triangle so avoid it. It will be really fast once there's fresh asphalt on it.

Got my 2nd flat in 2 weeks after not having one for 2 years. 3 cyclists passed and didn't ask if I needed assistance. I didn't but i always ask when I pass someone on the side of the road. Had to stop by Brands and pickup 2 extra tubes.

Temps were cool and felt like the AC was on.

57 miles @ 15.6mph... must of had a tail wind both ways.

AVOID ROUND SWAMP ROAD

Tough 40 miles today.

My wife & I set out on the AA ride and felt, right away, that this just wasn't our day. We both felt like we were pedaling into a stiff headwind (which we were, but ours was worse than anyone else's!) so we dropped off after a few miles. 2 friends stayed with us and we struggled and labored and suffered. Mrs Kaos said to check the bike but I assured her it was fine and we were just sucking. Finally, at the 15 mile mark, after climbing Fish Hatchery Hill on 25A at 5 mph, we pulled over and told the guys we were cooked and going to turn for home. They suggested we move over to a driveway to get away from traffic and discuss, so I went to push the bike over.........and it didn't want to move. W T F.

I think I mentioned a previously made suggestion to check the bike. You all know where this is going.

One of the springs for the rear V-brake was popped out of position, and one pad was rubbing, HARD. Brake on, for 15 miles.

The next thing I felt was wife's shoe striking buttock. Did I mention a suggestion to check the bike?

40 miles, and we have felt less beat after a century ride.

Check your brakes, especially you tandem captains, lest you experience The Foot Of The Mrs.

PS. To local riders, Tour of the Hamptons tomorrow!!!! starting at Southampton High School as always. 20....what, 27 years? and never a rainout. Best PBJ sandwiches you can get in any bank parking lot.

Come on Joe, you know better than that.

Going to a wedding this evening and the wife said she doesn't want to hear i'm tired from a long ride. So I skipped riding today and took the opportunity to give the bike a top to bottom cleaning, adjusting and lubricating. It was nice to give the bike some "love" since it give me plenty of joy when it's running right.
