Only partly closed where they are doing the well digging. That closed section is on the flat, straight and wide trail on the N/S ridge along the SOB expressway and there's an easy and short detour.

If you are riding from the BP lot and north, ride the Blue for like the first 3/4 mile thru the hills and dales and up onto that "ridge" until you see the construction and well derrick. Watch for an orange marked trail heading right and down the hill. That will intersect a wide dirt road (unmarked), go left (north). Follow that about 1/4 mile north to a big 5 way intersection in an open area, go left (west) You will see a single track trail heading right, take that, it's the northern section of the blue trail, also know as the Hoffa section that leads up to Haypath Rd.

Today was amazing and the traffic on the bike path in Cedar Creek seems to have slowed a little. Despite the wind I did all the way to Tobay and back, getting to Jones Beach was easy, to Tobay and back wasn't pleasant. Wind was coming in from the north at just the right angle to make getting to Tobay hard and getting back from it nearly as hard. Getting from JB to the parking lot was straight into some fairly stiff wind. I was starting to fall off my pace 4 miles from the end when I was passed by someone almost my size and I started to feel competitive; I'm guessing he did to as he wouldn't let me get away and even passed me again at one point but I managed to get to the end just barely ahead of him. Whole trip took 1h3m with slow downs for groups of people blocking the trail and slowing down for families with small children. 7m off my fastest but good enough for this early in the season.

The wind was nasty going north. I headed to Cold Spring Harbor and back.

Headed out for a "local" ride, i need to stay close since my daughter-in-law is due any moment to give birth, so I did a few loops going no more than 3 miles from home. On the 3rd loop the left crank arm came off.

Had the wife come and get me and found the shoulder on the fixing bolt sheered off. No damage other than some scratches on the crank arm.



Only bad part is it might take some time to get a replacement and my CX bike is down also... so i guess i'll be walking for a week or so.

Glenn, glad you’re not hurt. I had a buddy crack a crank arm one time, he went ride over the bar.

Odd failure, can’t think I’d ever heard of that. Maybe Brands has that part.

Called Brands, they had to order it and should have it Friday.

It's a alloy part.so maybe I over torqued it. This was the first ride since taking it apart over the winter.

Been a couple of tough weeks at work. Finally got another shot at getting out yesterday afternoon after waking up. Only 25 miles but quite a welcome break. Bike path to beach and boardwalk were in good use, hard to say how crowded it would have been on a normal windy April day.

I got out at 10, wandered around Hewlett Harbor area for 22.

There are far many more folks walking than driving. Really odd to see that.

I've been busy the past 3 days.... I got a new grandson on Friday.



Going to Brands tomorrow to pickup the parts to fix my road bike and hope to get a ride in.

Actually she had an easy delivery, only 15 minutes.

They went from the delivery room to a private room and weren't allowed to leave. The baby was int he room the entire time since the nursery was converted to a ICU.

So i picked up a new crank fixing bolt at Brands. It's not exactly the same and at first I was a bit concerned, but after installing it I realized that they made the head of the bolt and flange thicker. I assume this was a redesign and assume because the original one could break.

Did a quick 25 mile ride and didn't break down

I have eTap and Rival CX1, my son has Force and Rival.

So it will be Sram... unless something better comes along.

Massapequa to Oyster Bay and back. A bit windy but I needed to get out and workout some stress.

A bit windy? It was blowing like mad Sat. and Sun. although in opposite directions. We did short 28 milers both days as the Mrs has a sore shoulder from a spill taken on an uneven sidewalk the other day. I actually had 3 nights off in a row(!) and can't believe how much I slept. I guess I was more worn out than I thought. Back to the front tomorrow.

Friday was nuts windy so I went mt. biking, BP was a bit muddy after Thursdays rain but OK.

Sat was still very windy so I took the gravel bike to Edgewood, that was a lot of fun.

Sunday morning was pretty calm, but the wind did pick up a bit, still the easiest of the 3 days, and it was "Apocalypse Riding", Easter Sunday morning when nobody's out driving to begin with.

Rode to Kings Park, first long ride this year. Now that my grandson arrived, I don't need to stay close to home.

I was tired of fighting the wind on the road bike, took the mt. bike out to Glacier Ridge for an exploratory loop as I've never been there and have wanted to ride it. Ended up with 10 miles, skipped a section or 2. A wonderful trail, lot's of quick short little hills, but a really nice flowing trail. I can see where it would be hammer time once you know the trail system. I had created a loop on TrailForks, downloaded to my Garmin and while it cannot do a turn-by-turn navigation, it does show you what trail you want to be on and where you've been. That pretty much got me onto about all the sections. Lots of fun.

I headed out and quickly decided i didn't want to fight the wind so I turned home. 0.86 of a mile

So I then spent 4 hours working on the lawn, cutting a lot of dead wood out of the tree in front of my house.

Wind was ridiculous, stuck it out but only 25 miles. I had almost decided to head up to Harriman for an overnight mini-backpack, but am going to wait until next week when one or more partners in crime can join me. The lean-tos are closed but we never use them anyway. Hope it stays cool. Tonight would have been a nice night to be out.

Steve, why cannot your Garmin do turn by turn? I tried mine the last time we went to Glacier using a file I loaded from GarminConnect, but the turn by turn feature kept freezing up and "returning" to a point I had long since passed, while the map kept scrolling properly. I assumed at the time that it was a problem with the file as I have not had any similar issues when I've used it on the road.

Bethpage trails tomorrow and then back to work.

PS. If you like Glacier for its "flow", try Manorville Hills.....
