Headed out early to Tobay... strong west wind so it was a slow ride from Tobay to Jones.

I've been burnt out all day and think i need to take some time off. I guess i'll see how i feel in the morning.

Once I realized my schedule was open enough to ride about every day, I decided to do some structure. I’m riding 5 days per week, I’ll do 5-6 hard weeks with about the same mileage per week in that period. Then I do an forced easy week of maybe 2-3 easy and shorter rides. Than another 5-6 weeks with both an increase in the length of the rides as well as increase in weekly mileage. This will see about 4 x 6 week sessions thru mid Sept. Then I’m doing “fun” stuff with no plans, just off island or east end rides, etc. That’ll get me into mt. bike season in October with a lot of fitness.

Beautiful summer day. 55 miles to Old Dock.......5 more and I would have ridden my age but the lure of a cold one at home was too strong.

Wow... it was like the outside was air conditioned... 74* and a nice breeze.

Rode to Huntington and then headed south and felt good so i continued to Jones Beach.

A project to find a decent route from the Dix Hills to south shore area on L.I. This route connects from Old Country Rd. at around Carmen Ave. in Dix Hills, south to Union Ave. in West Babylon, as an alternative route to the typical Pinelawn Rd. to SUNY Farmingdale or Round Swamp thru Bethpage. It uses Union Ave/Railroad Ave./Oak St as the route to/from the Massapequa Park area.

How about just going west on Old Country to Round Swamp south. At the end bear right onto Meeting town road. bear right onto Central Ave. Where it crosses the Bethpage Parkway, you can get on the bikeway and head south to Massapequa.

It's certainly a more scenic and shady route.

Been there many times. I also head down a lot thru Farmingdale on Secatogue/Staples/Carmen to MPP. Done that a lot as well. Some north shore buddies and I head out of BP a lot, often up to Greenlawn. We also sometimes do a Heckscher ride as described above. That’s a nice and fast ride, 45 or so RT from BP. This links the 2 areas so gives some loop options.

Humid 40 today. So far this year I've avoided experiencing leg cramps in the heat. A Good Thing.

Bayville NY. Connecticut coastline obscured by haze/fog.

Steve B. 07-18-20 01:57 PM

I did a solo from BP at 7, only 70 degrees and only went to 75 but 100% humidity. Mostly as it apparently rained last night or early morning in the center and north shores. Roads were all wet. Didn’t rain at home.

I also did some more exploring. Out LIE East and Half Hollow Hills Rd., to Carl’s Straight Path, south about 2-1/2 miles, then about 3 miles west on Nicole’s Rd to Colonial Springs, to Ruland and SUNY Farmingdale and back to BP. Nice loop and nice roads, easy to follow, no turns !.

Steve B. 07-19-20 10:33 AM

Bethpage today at 7, with 3 friends. Was getting hot at 9 and humid, so short and easy is the name of the game.

This is what I call the "south shore connector", gets you a nice loop, easy to extend by adding mileage up in the Greenlawn area.

We left from home at 745am with 2 friends. 37 easy miles, was plenty. The first thing I did when we got home was turn on the hose and soak myself.

I was checking out this route. Ripping down Bagatelle/Conklin, especially on a tandem, can be a blast!
I know you're into historical markers...did you notice the one on Colonial Springs? Allegedly one of Captain Kidd's fellow pirates settled in the area, post his retirement from crime on the high seas. You also rode over the spot where I got hit by an Oldsmobile in 1998, fracturing my spine. No historical marker there yet.

How is that stretch of Little East Neck Rd?

Thats the red historical marker ?, rode past at a clip, if I was alone would have backtracked. I went up Bagatelle a few weeks ago, LONG with a nice wall at the top.

Little Neck road was a great route, one lane with a shoulder mostly till it gets busy just south of Sunrise (where it meets 109), then we detoured a few blocks east to skip the shopping district, taking Litchfield down to Trolly Line.

All in all a good route that I’ve never done before.

Where you on a club ride when you got hit ?, I think the MPBC came thru this area once when I was a member. How I remembered Colonial Springs.

I was alone wearing the old bright yellow MPBC jersey on a nice sunny October morning. Oncoming 79 year old woman turned left and t-boned me. I left a couple of decent dents in her hood and caved in the windshield. She continued to her house, 2 houses away, and parked in her driveway, which rather annoyed me. Never touched the brakes. Her neighbor heard the impact and came out, called EMS. When the driver ambled her way over I told her she was lucky I was unable to get up.

I got hit early 90's at the OBY Library, same thing, old lady turning into the parking lot across my path. I swerved and glanced off her front bumper and went down. Somebody called the cops, who looked at my license as well as hers and the Nassau cop literally told me "Well, she's local and your not and if your not hurt......" They let her go, as a bystander mentioned to me he had noticed she had a beer can in her lap.

It's remarkable how many motorcyclists on L.I. get killed in this scenario, what is know as "failure to yield right-of-way" as if "I didn't see him" is a valid excuse. Nuts.

Older women seem to get slack. One of riding buds got hit from behind on West Shore Rd just south of the Bayville bridge with a 150 lumen flasher in use. 81 year old, LEFT THE SCENE and was chased down by a witness. She returned to the scene 20 minutes later, and in the presence of EMS and police first told her victim he "should have been on the (nonexistent) sidewalk", and then denied hitting him at all. The cop gave her a good chewing out but did not arrest her.

Welp, lady, 2 of our regular riding group are attorneys.

Time to mount front and rear cameras.

I'm thinking of doing that on my car since my car was parked at the deli and hit by the truck next to it backing up and never looking. The driver claimed it was my fault. But the deli's in store camera showed me walking in, him walking out and hitting my car when it was parked. Otherwise it was my word against his.

F$^%ER.

Good Ride Stamford, Ct.

Finally got the OK to come to my son's and visit with the grandkids. Haven't been here in 101 days since my grandson's bris, he's changed a lot.

So i brought my bike and my 30 year old son and I headed out early this morning to beat the heat. Headed north through New Canaan and up across the New York boarder to Bedford. The streets are country lanes one lane way each, but they are relatively smooth with rolling hills and a few climbs.

42 miles with 3900' of climbing. It was a serious workout and keeping up with a 30 year old former triathlete was not easy. But then his bike still has standard chainrings with a 11-26 and I have a compact with a 11-28 so I never lost sight of him.

Its good to be young, bet better to be old and not a couch potato.

GlennR 07-25-20 10:02 AM

Not that bad today... headed out at 6:30 and returned at 11:30, 62 miles with 3 breaks.

Can't really see all my stats since Garmin's website is down, but the computer says I had a hard workout.

GlennR 07-27-20 09:30 AM

Beat the heat today, headed out at 6:00am, it was 72* and really nice for a change. By 10:30 it was in the upper 80s so i headed home.

kaos joe 07-27-20 10:17 AM

5 of us got an early start too today. One of us had to get to work so only 27 miles, off the bike by 915, and it was surprisingly pleasant. That said I plan on sitting it out tomorrow.......
