It may simply be not enough liquids.
You state you sweat a lot and drink 60oz., and are riding 2-1/2 hours on a hot and humid day. Old rule was 20oz. per hour, but on a cooler day with lower humidity, so factor that in.
Maybe hydrate before you head out with another 20oz bottle of an energy drink. Maybe a different drink such as Cytomax ?.
Plus a fast paced group ride so significant energy expenditure.
As well, the temp's went from mid 60's to mid 80's in a day and nobody has acclimated to that yet.

Yes, a perfect storm of conditions and lack of foresight on my part. I need to head out the door very well hydrated and then get religion about staying ahead of it. On top of it all I wasn't feeling my best digestive-wise, and barely got in the door before gastrointestinal mayhem erupted. I was going to leave that out, but there you go.
There will be better days.

That's the thing. For me it really wasn't extreme.
Today the experiment continued. Dragged my weary legs out and did the same distance, a little flatter and slower although not drastically so. I think the temps were around the same. I drank 20 oz before we left the house and 80oz on the round trip to Bayville.....and egad, I forgot my electrolyte caps!
Result? No problems at all. We rode the Bilenky so looked better too.

I haven't been feeling all that great on the bike this year, either. For some reason, I'm really dragging and I'm unable to get my head in the game. Interestingly, my stomach has also been constantly giving me problems, to the point where I've skipped a lot of rides because of it. Maybe we're all being poisoned by lead in our drinking water?
I booked my yearly ride to Rhode Island the other day, and I will soon start planning a summer ride to either Greenport or Milford, CT -- or both. Right now, I can't even imagine making these trips, but hopefully I will get acclimated to the heat soon and this lethargy will just be a bad memory. A little bit of Spring to help make the transition would have been nice.

Had to go to Brickwell Farmingdale so I took the bike. On the way back, getting ready to cross over the southern state there was a swam of bees feeding on the flowers on the fence. So I picked up speed, took a deep breath and blasted through. I felt them bouncing off my face and body but no stings.

Yesterday I rode from home in Woodhaven, Queens out the farthest east I have ever ridden on Long Island, to East Islip. I had an elaborate route planned out; but, at the last minute, I abandoned it and just took Merrick Blvd. / Merrick Road all the way. And, you know what? It wasn't too bad. I was going counter to rush hour; so I didn't really have any problem.
The only slightly hairy section was where Merrick Road and Sunrise Highway crossed in Lynbrook, as I came back home, going west. But even this was only a minor issue. And going east that point was just fine.
So I had a good day of 80 miles total, my biggest day since last summer.

I know you prefer urban cycling, but if heading out this way again you might try (starting at the Nassau/Suffolk border) the Old Sunrise Highway/Oak St/Hoffman Ave/Railroad Ave/John St/Union Blvd route. It's very easy to follow, closely parallels your route but is a bit lighter on the traffic without being at all isolated. That gets you out to East Islip and onto Montauk Highway at the Bayard Arboretum. It's my preferred opening leg of the Montauk century route I use. If you want to go further east, I'll post the rest of the way.

Drove to Cedar Creek Park and rode the path to Tobay and back. A lot cooler and completely clouded over at the beach. And the wind was an easy 15-20mph out of the east, but still a great day for a ride.

About noon today, we saw a number of riders, using cue sheets, westbound on Montauk Highway in Southampton while we were driving home from a wedding in the area. Presumably these were Bike-Boat-Bike riders. Unfortunately just minutes later we ran into torrential rains, and presumably, so did they. Ugh. Better luck next year......
A bunch of us were lucky enough to enjoy the hospitality of one of our fellow riders at his place in Southampton yesterday, and in anticipation of the poor Sunday forecast we did our own BBB clockwise around Peconic Bay from his house for a 63 mile loop. What a great day it turned out to be after a gray start. The sun broke out just as we were passing "The Big Duck" and stayed with us throughout, nice lunch in Dering Harbor, what's not to like. Made the afternoon wedding on time too.

35 miles with a 15-20 mph wind. A number of times I had to slow down because I was being blown all over the road.
Also a lot of grit and dust, my eyes are burning.

Just came across these forums. Exactly what I was looking for.
I just purchased my first bike in 15 years & I've been learning as much as I can.
Im in Franklin Square but plan on taking out my bike for the first time immediately after I pick it up from Brands fitness in Wantagh.
Debating on that Bethpage park trail or the Cedar Creek to Jones beach.
Would these be attainable for a beginner like myself.?

Both are close and flat so do as much as you feel. Just remember, when you decide to turn around and head back, you're only half way there.

I wouldn't be attempting either from your house in Franklin Square.
Park and ride for a while till you get up to the distance.
Also pay attention to the winds at Jones, best when out of the south as you have a tough ride heading down, but cruise back. Also be aware that as the prevailing winds tend to be out of the SW, if you head east to Tobay from East Bath House, you'll have a head wind returning.

Oh God I wasn't planning on starting from my house, lol. I don't have game like that yet.
I haven't gotten a bike tow hitch yet but I have a 2016 Explorer Sport & I think I'll have no problem fitting my bike temporarily with the 3rd row down.
Do most of you guys have a hitch?
