Today was a gift as well. Got into work early, got out early, zero traffic coming home, on the bike at 3.

35 miles at 15.3, Freeport to top of Washington Ave. in Plainview ?, Woodbury ? and back.

Wonderful ride, was in a short sleeve jersey and I think the days for that are numbered.

I worked the last 2 nights, so 25 out of 36 hours.....got home with just enough time to change, and made the 830am AA ride. Which was off-the-chain fast, with long stretches of 25+ mph. Needless to say I had as much energy as a sack of manure, but the Mrs. was awesome and hauled my shattered butt along. We (I) went out with the target of getting about 35 miles in, so after about 18 miles 3 of us bid adieu, dialed it back and headed for home, ending up with 37.

The bed is calling my name.

Another 40 mile day @ 15.5mph. I added a Tobay leg and it was windy.

Hey Steve, was that you this am at Manor Rd? The sun was behind you and I couldn't see a damn thing except the silhouettes of 3 riders. The Mrs. (better eyesight, better sunglasses, better looking) said "it was a guy with a beard".

We went up to Crab Meadow beach and were dismayed to find the bathrooms padlocked and all the outdoor tables stacked up. So then over to Northport. Between those 2 stops and a couple of mech issues and a flat, we were out almost an extra hour for a routine 47 miler. Great day to be out though!

Yup, there were 5 of us in total so we had a real paceline going at times. I saw you and all the other MPBC folks going by, you'all must have started later, we were on our way back to BP after doing the Broadway-Clay Pitts-Ellwood to Cuba Hill loop. Had to work around a running race, but the Suffolk cops were nice and let us pass.

Agree with everybody, a really nice day, supposed to be warm all week.

Did you start from the library? We started a bit late, maybe 840am. The police were OK with letting us pass also. I think we were ahead of the main body of runners, as we saw only a handful and they did not appear to be the type to be bringing up the rear.

Rolled about 8:20 from the library. What's nice about a small group is you know who's coming and can leave when we are all ready.

I think that was what made me stop doing MPBC rides, even though I had a lot of friends, Jeff C. big Tony, Tony Whistle (yuk, yuk), ? Turner, JP Araeu, Frank and his wife -Janice ?, You, Etc.... lots of good folks and good riders. Then sometimes a AA would have 15 or more and leading it or sitting in it was a challenge. Miss it sometimes.

Yes, this weekend was a good example.....big group, a lot of the "Open" racing-oriented guys have been coming on the AA rides, and the speed gets out of hand. So often a smaller group of about half a dozen of us will drop off the back and ramp it back to a more congenial pace where we can actually have a few laughs. Make no mistake, we are still usually cruising at 20 or so on the flats but thats a lot more pleasant than 25.

Jeff C. is still always out, he was with us today; Whistle Tony is out often enough, as are Frank and Janet (you were close!). JP moved to NYC and we haven't seen him in a while.

C'mon out, there is a "kinder, gentler" AA group.

Damn... it was hot. Headed out at noon and finished by 3:00. Temps were in the low 80's, glad I was wearing "summer" kit.

Yes indeed, 81 at 3:30. Headed to JB, skipped TOBAY, didn't want to fight the west wind on the return, extended thru Massapequa and then home for 30. Won't see this temperature for a long while. I hope.

Unbelievable. I took off from work today just to ride. There's no way I was going to miss such a beautiful day. Today was a remarkable gift.

Silly question; why do you all brag about your speed and mileage instead of where you rode, the scenery, a new trail, a new route. Be aware of this area type thing?

I ride the same routes a lot so the scenery is not much. It might be different if i lived in a rural area.

You guys are killing me......had to sleep through it, no choice. But it wasn't going to happen again today!

Walked the old pooch, got him established on the couch, and then headed up to the mouth of the Nissequogue River in Kings Park. The clouds rolled in while I was eating a Clif (protein bar....yesssss) and it looked like rain the whole way home, but stayed dry. 57 humid miles.

Heads up- Old Commack Rd north of Scholar Ln is being repaved and is closed. I had to do some dirt walking. The pavement here had some truly hazardous holes and cracks so this is a good thing. It's part of NYS Bike Rt 25 so I'd like to think that's why it got attention.

Good point and I stopped including my speed. I think distance is OK as it somewhat indicates where you ride and the amount of time you are out and that is useful for folks. I don't indicate all the details of my rides, but will sometimes show my commute, or part of, as an image taken from a GPS tracking site.. Trouble with some of us is we ride from home. I NEVER show a GPS track that indicates where I live, you never know who might use that data, such as picking up that I'm riding from home typically on a Wed. morning. Bad idea.

It's not bragging either any more then reading a ride or trip report on Touring or the 50 Plus forum.

One thing to be aware of is it can get tedious reading somebody's ride report when they ride the same roads a lot and report that ride repeatedly.

Pictures I just plain forget to stop and take. Oldnslw2 is good at it.

Trust me... averaging 15.5mph (solo) is not bragging. There are many that are much faster.

But then, maybe someone will will say "I can do that speed/distance, maybe we can ride together sometime".

not a single person is "bragging" here at all, they're just telling you the distance and speed and time of their rides, if you consider that bragging than i don't know what to tell you...

hell, i live in the same town and oldnslow2 and we've never ever run into each other on the road, like ever... lol

Wanted to go to Brands to see if they have fenders for my SuperX so I figured i'd ride there. As I went to the garage it started to rain, but since I bought the SuperX so i can ride in the rain... i headed out anyway. I just took it a bit slow and quickly found the hydro disc can easily over power the tires so i had to be careful not to lock them and cause the tires to skid.

When i went to leave Brands, it was pouring so I hung around until it let up a bit.

Just spent the last 30 minutes wiping the bike down and drying the drivetrain.

And now the sun it coming out... it was still fun.

Did they have fenders? I sometimes use SKS full coverage fenders on my "winter" cross bike. I've had no problems with them. Widely available online. Be aware that at speed, there is enough splash and spray that shoes still get wet over time, even with the addition of a pretty big mudflap. I formed one out of a black (gotta match) plastic motor oil jug. It's roughly the size and shape of the business end of a flyswatter.

They didn't in stock. I'm looking at these: Planet Bike SpeedEZ Fenders (Hybrid/Touring) - Brands Cycle and Fitness

They can easily be removed and installed so I can use them with my street tires and remove them for the knobby CX tires.

Jamie said if they don't fit, i can return them.

Too nasty for a ride, but i was in Brooklyn this morning and decided to stop by R&A and drool over the inventory. I also stopped by Red Beard Bikes and saw a Seven 622SLX... absolutely beautiful.

Not getting the design of carbon glued into titanium lugs. Not enamoured with the look either.

I had a titanium Lemond before moving to carbon. The bottom bracket was so wimpy I got terrible rub on the chain from the F derailer every time I stood or otherwise stomped on the pedals. I had to move to Campy to get a derailer/shifter that would allow more refined trim. Note I'm a heavy rider, but after coming from 2 wonderful Kleins, titanium was just not a good choice, or a bad frame design from Trek/Lemond. As well my steel Soma has none of the b-bracket issues my Lemond had.

Seems that the 622 design just invites problems and isn't using carbon where it can be utilized best, stiff but light tube junctions that prevent flex.
