Big Sur road cycling

I've done some camping in Big Sur area in the previous years. I'm planning another camping trip in July. But this time I want to do some road riding in the area. So what would be a decent 40~50 mile ride that includes some spectacular ocean views? I did some quick research. I found an article on It talks about the Nacimiento-Fergusson Road. I'd love to include that part.

Any suggestions on the route map?

Thank you!

For paved riding in Big Sur, your options are pretty much Hwy 1 and Nacimiento-Fergusson. N-F is fabulous -- easily one of California's most beautiful roads, and a challenging but not brutal climb in both directions. You'd have a great ride just starting from the ocean, riding over N-F to Mission San Antonio (water available there) and heading back to the ocean for a total of 52 miles. Hwy 1 of course has spectacular ocean views but also car traffic and, especially in July, lots of fog. Another option is Old Coast Road, an old road that dates to before Hwy 1 was built. It's dirt but road-bikeable. It runs from Andrew Molera State Park to the Bixby Bridge, inland and through the hills. It goes through gorgeous redwood forests and has wonderful ocean views and almost no car traffic.
