Bay Area shops that buy bikes / Bay Area swap meets?

Man I hate CL! Nothing but scammers, tire kickers, and low ballers. So, I'm looking for another way to sell a bike. Are there any Bay Area shops that buy used bikes? I found one shop online that can sell your bike on consignment, but they want 30% of the sale price! I'd rather do Ebay for half that cost! I know selling to a shop would probably bring a lot less than what I can probably get on CL (if I could get some legit buyers), but I'm willing to consider it.

Similarly, are there any big swap meets that people have been to, or at least know of? I'm sure many local shops/clubs have yearly swap meets, but I'd prefer not to drive all over the Bay Area for a small swap. So, to that end, I'd be willing to driver farther for a large swap meet, or go to any swap meet that's more local to me (East Bay).

I know a couple of big bike swap meets in the south bay, but they are only once a year each. Cupertino Bike Shop partners with ROMP for a swap meet in April. Sports Basement Sunnyvale partners with the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition for a swap meet in August.

Sorry, don't know anything about the east bay, except for those swap meets that reportedly cater to bicycle thieves.

There is an event at Cow Palace some time in November. I went last year and was surprised that it was a really decent event. Best part is the Dickens fair is also going on so you do both and only pay to park once. There was a good amount of used bikes and components.

SF Bike Expo | The Cycle of Life!

It's not on the Cow Palace calendar for some reason though...

If you haven't already you can call/email Dublin Cyclery in Dublin. I believe they buy and sell/rent used bikes.

The Pedaler has a swap coming up. If you just have one bike you can walk around with a for sale sign on it and see if anyone is interested. It hasn't been too well attended because of other swaps so they have gone to once a year in the fall. The Pedaler Bike Shop - El Sobrante bike shop - Trek - Cannondale - Specialized

I had talked the Livermore Cyclery, they want 30% commission on any bike you sell through them and you need to use the other 70% to buy a bike from them. Not a bad deal really but not the most economical situation.

I was about to trade my bike into Mikes Bikes but wound up finding a buyer. They use bicyclebluebook.com for the values. I'm not sure how much they take off for the trade in, but you bring in your bike and they evaluate the condition and give you a value. The catch is you need to buy a bike through them. I was surprised as to how much the blue book site valued my bike at, actually more than I was asking on CL with no hits. What you are selling is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

I wound up buying a bike through MB anyway, they had it in stock and were willing to price match a lower price. I will give the Walnut Creek location a big thumbs up for customer service. They were great to deal with.

I work at a shop in SF that specializes in used bikes- and it's tough to give someone a fair price on a good bike. The shop has to offer you a price where they can still make money after tuning up and storing/displaying the bike for however long it takes to sell. We do consignment at 30% as well.

If you are just against CL and not against all websites, there's a facebook "Online Swap Meet" group, people post there very often with what seems like good results, you might want to check it out.
Good luck with your search!
