Fleet Week Airshow

I have been going to this event for many years. Really enjoy taking out my bike for the day and watching the airshow. Normally bring some family and friends along to hang out with.

Does anyone else go and check out the sights? Or do most cyclists just see it as a day to avoid the bay? It can be frustrating if you are there for training and such with all the people but I certainly enjoy it.

I am out here for Fleet Week most years. The Blue Angels practice just woke me from a nap. My brother lives in the Marina so I'm not really in the crowds. Have fun.

I took my daughter to Fort Point and Chrissy Field a few weeks ago and I was surprised at how rude and irresponsible some of the cyclists were that weekend. They were yelling at people and riding 15-20mph through crowds. Bring your bike but don't expect to be able to ride at more than a slow jogging pace. This is not the place to go for a training ride.

Moved to Mercer Island on Lake Washington this summer. I saw the Angels making many passes 500 feet over my house a couple months back. My father was a Navy pilot before going into the airlines in the '60s and liked this stuff. I'm a lot more ambivalent; I sort of could imagine how someone on the business end of one of this jets might feel. I don't like military promotions much I guess.

Well stated. Very sobering insight. It's difficult for us to nurture our sense of empathy when we are constantly brainwashed with "support our troops" rhetoric.

fighter jets are pretty awesome pieces of machinery. But I never make it out because I hate crowds.

A fantastic shot. I watched the practice from the deck in the Marina yesterday. 30-35 people coming today for air show which we are watching from the deck and the roof. Have fun!

I caught part of the Blue Angels show during my ride through Berkeley on Saturday. Headed out the SF Sunday and the fog put a bit of a kink in the airshow. I'm not a big fan of the large crowds either but I usually do it twice a year, once for July 4th fireworks and Fleet Week.

Lots of cyclist out and lots of recreational riders too. It was a good time, hopefully next year will be a little more clear. Strava showed multiple flybys on my route from the Embarcadero Bart Station to the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge and back.
