Riding around/up Mt. Diablo

Hi.

I will be in the area on Sunday and want to do three and a half hour ride. Any route suggestions and where to park?
Something that is easy to remember. I don't want to spent half an hour trying to navigate city streets.
I plan to be on my bike around 8 am. If anyone wants to join, let me know.

Chers

This makes it pretty easy. Timing depends on the your climbing speed. Most can do this 1:40ish up and then your trip back down 40 mins or so. Be careful descending can be fast and crazy car drivers cutting corners and passing cyclist on blind corners. Park Rangers will ticket cyclist for speeding. After all that! Still a nice time of year to ride the mtn.

From 680 or 24 take Ignacio Valley road to Walnut Avenue and park right after Ignacio Valley.
Bicycle Walnut and follow the signs to Mt. Diablo State park on to North Gate and up and up.
Take a wind breaker as it can be relatively cold coming back down.
Have fun.

Park at Arbolado Park... restrooms and close to Diablo.

For 3-1/2 hours I think I'd suggest doing the Morgan Territory / Diablo loop... clockwise. That would put Diablo at the end, and you can choose to do the Summit or just Junction depending on the time.

It's been a few years since I rode in that neck of the woods. Which one is Morgan Territory loop?

Thanks for suggestions everyone.

This one is pretty close - although you can get to Clayton by going up Ygnacio so you don't have to include Concord BART

Just looked at my mileage from the last time I rode it and it was 63.8mi parking at Arbolado, clockwise, and climbing to the summit before the end.

I think it'd be really optimistic to do that ride in 3.5h, even skipping the summit. More reasonable might be to summit from Arbolado, go down the south side to the Draeger's Market at Blackhawk Plaza, get a beer/bite to eat, then ride back up the south side to the Junction, and to the summit again if you want the mileage.

Nope, totally free parking since it is a public city park. There is an upper lot and a lower lot.
Upper lot has bathrooms and water.
I often park in the lower lot, less crowded, since the upper lot gets a lot of use from the soccer fields up there.

3-1/2 hours to do Morgan and Diablo? Maybe you guys can do that, but I sure as hell can't.

Well Umney's tag includes the word "racing", and your tag includes the word "crawling".

I made a Strava Route - it estimates 4h17m riding time... presumably at my pace, and without the Summit.

Thanks. Need to make a route sheet so I don't get lost. lol What is the total elevation gain?

So anyway. If anyone wants to join me sent me a PM. Pace will be steady zone 2, and see what can be done in 3.5-4 hours. Nothing crazy. Plan to leave parking lot around 8. If no one messages there is no guarantee I won't change it at last minute.

Total elevation is close to 7k with the summit of Diablo.

Zone 2 with summit? My guess is it took 4h45m.

Well ride went well, mostly. I missed turn to Morgan Territory and continued until Mash Road branched of to Camino Diablo. So I had to back track 10 miles, and lost an hour something. I rolled to Black Hawk Plaza in Danvile at 3h 30minutes. Between detour and leaving later then I thought I was running out of time. So asked a friend to pick me up while I grabbed lunch. Got my 3h 30m minutes ride in so all is good. Spent afternoon climbing at Mt. Diablo. That was tons of fun. :-D

Thanks for route suggestions everyone.
