broad daylight power saw bicycle theft in San Francisco (video)
 

Last Friday afternoon on Valencia Street in San Francisco:
Video: brazen thief wielding power tool cuts bike lock in SF - SFGate

I don't know whose bicycle this was (the article says it was a woman who was inside the building, who has filed a police report). Just saw the article in the newspaper.

I never ever leave my bike anywhere unattended. If I have to make a stop while transporting my bike on my car's roof rack, I lock it up and park where I can see it. It's hard to say what I'd do in that situation, it's easy to say you'd confront someone doing that, but a thief that brazen may not be the type of person you want to get into a conflict with...

Yeah, not sure what you do to stop that. I did notice the woman cyclist at the end said something to him, and then started to dial the phone. Way too late to do anything at that point though. He looked like a pretty big guy, not sure who there was going to confront him. Certainly not the mom with the stroller, who knew something was up and got the heck out of there...

Even if one of them called 911, not like the SFPD would have responded in time.
