Did you guys get affected by the Earthquake?
Everyone okay? Any damage?
|
Fine here in the Peninsula. Woke up to the noise, thought it was a dream. Then finally saw a breaking news on tv. It's been awhile since we had one. Just another day in NorCal. lol
|
I woke up and thought I dreamed it.
But my dog totally predicted this. |
There were reports that some felt shaking in Sacramento, but I did not.
|
My cranky hip had me half awake. I could hear creaking before a quick rolling jolt. About 10 miles from center.
|
Felt it in Santa Cruz. I think the dogs woke me up first though.

I was waiting for it to grow into a 8.0

Out in the Tri-Valley, I asked my wife if she was shaking the bed or if we were having an earthquake. She was awake enough to answer and indicate she didn't know what I was talking about. Since she was awake (but barely), I suspect it penetrated her brain enough to wake her even if she didn't realize the bed was shaking. It was pretty darned gentle.

In Berkeley, 2 or 3 miles from the epicenter and very close to the Hayward Fault, it was one sharp jolt and associated minor rattling that woke me up. Otherwise, no effect. It didn't even freak our cats out, at least not so we could notice. This is a good thing.
|
My husband didn't feel it and he was awake at about 230 to let the dogs go relieve themselves. I woke up thinking it was the dogs all jumping on the bed and wrestling like they normally do.
|
I'm hoping that old wives tale about small quakes relieving pressure on a fault so that it doesn't give a big jolt is true, at least as far as the Hayward fault goes.
Then again, if it did give an 8 or something that might take down all the bridges across the bay and give folks a chance to rethink the region's transportation future. The Loma Prieta did lead to the Capital Corridor Amtrak trains and the removal of the Embarcadero freeway, so apparently transportation officials can be taught. |
The thing that made me think was something a friend pointed out. If I didn't feel the earthquake or thought that it was my dogs, there could have been a larger one that caused the house to collapse. With me thinking it was the dogs and me rolling over yanking the blankets over my head like I usually do, then I could have been killed without even trying to scramble to live.
Kind of a creepy thought but if I were to go, I'd rather go without the panic. |
I also felt one in Santa Cruz when I lived in Berkeley, back in '89. That one was fairly unambiguous.
|
I'm in Contra Costa and our street cracked from the buckling in the 89 one.
|
I was in Candlestick Park. It was hard to miss.

Yeah, I'd rather go quietly in my sleep, like my grandpa, not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car.
