Riding Thunderhill racetrack; and around Willows in general.
I'll be visiting family in Willows for a couple weeks and I see on the Thunderhill website that bicycles are allowed after hours with permission. Is this a popular thing? Has anyone else done it, or do it regularly? I'd imagine all that smooth pavement without traffic would be pretty awesome.
Also, how is the road riding around the area in general?
Im visiting from Chicago, and the days available to ride are definitely limited so I'm thinking of bringing my bike for the two weeks.

I don't live near Willows but was curious about riding a bicycle on the racetrack. Check Strava "segment explore" and you can see that there are a number of Strava segments on the racetrack, with around 8,000 rides by around 600 different people. However, whether all of them were actually riding bicycles when they recorded their rides is questionable, like this guy with a max speed of 138 MPH:

Wow, that's pretty neat. I've been using strava for years but never explored that feature. I only record and analyze my own rides.
Looks like plenty of people ride the track. I'll contact the track about availability.
Thanks.

I've raced cars on that track for years. They used to have bikes in the paddock that you could borrow to just get around. I took one of those bikes on the track one night and it was a lot of fun! Of course, I was surveying the track for driving purposes, but the turns, (small) climbs, and descents were great on 2 wheels. The "normal" configuration is about 3 miles with 14 turns. The track is run counterclockwise 99% of the time, but the clockwise direction is more exciting on a bicycle due to a long, sweeping downhill right-hander.

Well, I just heard back from the track and the website info is outdated. Apparently there wasn't enough interest so they stopped allowing bicycles.
