Temps aside, high winds yesterday and today so no ride either day for me.. Suppose to a a-ok tomorrow and the rest of next week though..

Not really complaining here, but it's 57°F here this morning, which looks like the new normal for awhile. It feels more like 37°F, after those high temps. I had to put on long pants last night, and a light down jacket this morning. Oh, poor me. 😁😉

{sigh} Middle of September and the two weeks of sunshine are gone, replaced by clouds (instead of our usual marine layer) and a possibility of actual rain over the next few days. It was a nice summer, however short.

Yeah, I noticed this morning, that they changed the forecast. Supposed to rain here tomorrow and Monday!!! 🌧️🌧️ (I like playin' with these things, hope noone minds too much). With my luck, it'll rain for 5 minutes each day. 🙄😉

I used to be like a rain magnet, it ALWAYS rained, wherever I went. These days, not so much. 🤔

"Showers" today! I say "" because it was a brief sprinkle, enough to turn the dust on the plants to mud, but not enough to wash it off. Taking a closer look, the forecast says, 'New precipitation amounts of 1/10th of an inch are possible.' Not even real rain!

Fortunately us northerners aren't easily daunted, and the first North Country Fair since 2019 is going on as scheduled and it's crowded! It's 64F and everyone's running around in shorts while black clouds loom overhead.

Bay Area is supposed to get rain starting Sunday afternoon and getting heavier. Whoo hoo! Weather speculator was a bit vague. I hope to get out and with luck get into some real rain. I do enjoy a hard rain on the bike especially coming home. Fingers crossed.

About 10:15 we just had a hard shower. About 5 minutes worth. Temperature at about 70F. Now sun is strong. I should go out now.

I did go out and just now got home riding through a strong shower. I am pleasantly soaked and will get into a hot shower. Very nice! This bike is officially baptized.

Ayup, it rained off & on all night here, then around 9:00 AM, when it was supposed to be mostly done, it rained HARD for 15-20 minutes. 😁 I don't suppose the drought's over, but this has to help a good bit. 👍

Another good solid rain is coming down this morning. 👍 I'm fairly sure it didn't rain all night, must have been saving it all up for now.

I've still never seen a good thunderstorm here on the West coast. Growing up in Pennsylvania, we often got them, with thunder & lightning to scare the dogs & little kids. 😁 Maybe my mentioning it, will bring one along? 🤔😉

Naw, the storms I'm talking about, include HEAVY rain. They'd put out fires, not start them. 🙂

In Iowa we had thunderstorms with tornadoes... the kind that picked up cows and put them in the neighbor's trees, and destroyed wooden roller coasters.

You're obviously hiring untrustworthy rainmakers there. A good rainmaker can scare dogs & little kids, without scaring the cows, much less hurting them. How are ya gonna have ice cream & chocolate milk, if some idjit is scarin' your cows? 🤔🙄

I grew up in PA, too, near Gettysburg. I remember those summer thunderstorms - hot day, high humidity, just beastly.

Then late in the afternoon, the western sky would get dark, and for maybe 20 minutes to half an hour, it would get darker, and louder, and the rain would come down in big, fat drops by the bucket. The thunder would get louder and louder - initially just a rumble, then booms, then kind of a crackling noise before the boom, then, if it was REALLY close, the flash was immediately followed by a ginormous *CRACK-BOOM!!!!*. Then all that would diminish, and for a few minutes it was cooler and not so beastly.

But then all the water that had fallen started evaporating and the heat came back and it was worse than before.

I would not, however, trust that something like those storms would not ignite the tinder-dry brush that we have hereabouts.

California does have some spectacular thunder storms, you are just not in the right place. Late summer go up to the high Sierra sometime. The morning will have clear blue sky not a cloud in sight. We kids while camping at Tuolumne would predict, “looks like rain”. As the day went on there would be a few clouds and then more and dark sky. Then a rush of huge raindrops and thunder and lightning. Hail too. After about an hour the clouds would blow away and we would reset our flattened tent and sleep well until, yes the next day we did it all over again.

Learned the hard way in the mid 1980's how fast thunderstorms can funnel into the Eastern Sierra passes.

We were fishing Rush Creek along the June Lake Loop when my brother had fallen into the creek crossing over.
The weather was sunny and warm in the 80's. Once the lightning strikes, hail and wind had kicked up, the temp dropped 30 degrees and my brother was going into hypothermia.
We made a sprint to the car about a 1/2 mile away with our damn lightning rods (fishing rods) pointing skyward as bolt strikes hit the crags near where Silver Lake emptied into Grant Lake.
Lesson learned!

Oh, alright then, I'll take you guys' & gals' word for it. 😉 I did remember, there was a heck of a rainy storm up in Seattle once, in the early 2000s. But that was kinda unusual. 95% of the rain up there, is that steady drizzle, like it wants to rain good, but just can't find the energy. 🙄😉

Not a complaint, exactly; I'm just impressed at how abruptly the rainy season has started. I don't know about you guys down south, but up here we're also getting unseasonably cold temps too. Brrr.
