There was a bit of sun here today, but so many wires and trees still down, and mud/rock slides and debris all over the road, I decided not to take the bike out.

There was a break in the storm, and a basketball game at my kids’ school Thursday. I usually ride the Vine Trail, but last night the streets were calling ski rode the big stroads and through downtown.

Even with ****** potholed asphalt, crappy gutter bikelanes, and too many red lights, there’s something about riding through a city at night, under the streetlights, cars buzzing by, the waft of pizza and greaseburgers on the air, mixing with the faint background odour of tarmac after a rainstorm.

Well, Accuweather has 5 different warning flags now, on the Sacramento page. It looks like a "line" of storms coming today, with high winds and 1/2" hail. Yikes!!! 😲

Now we can see the hailstones floating by, in the flooded streets, I guess. 🙄🤔

At least it's supposed to clear up next week. Which will be nice, if we're not already dead. 😁😉

Well, I haven't floated away; northern Humboldt seems to be getting the edges of all this, which is just fine by me. We're still getting high winds, trees falling over (sometimes on people's houses), and mudslides blocking the few roads out of here. There are areas that haven't had power since the 12/20 earthquake, due to a combination of the sheer number of downed poles and lines, their physical isolation, and the fact they're mostly mobile home parks full of poor people. That said PG&E and Caltrans crews are working their asses off playing whack-a-mole with power outages and falling trees and mudslides, and deserve huge bonuses (and a week off to sleep and recover). PG&E's executives deserve jail time.

The Humboldt Office of Emergency Services keeps reminding everyone that if you live among trees, sleep in the lower level and away from windows. I don't know, does camping in your living room count as an S24O?

I'm definitely in full whine mode, but damn if the rain stops, here comes the frost and bitterly cold mornings again...Unreal, this winter has been a doozy so far, and it's just started! I cannot stand the first half hour or so when it's 35 degrees outside, no matter how many layers I put on, something's always freezing, usually my hands and face. Ugh...I *guess* this is better than rain...

I grabbed this pic at the Yolo Wilderness Bypass Area, which is the bike trail along I-80, from Sacramento to Davis.

What's most interesting, isn't the heron or the train, but the fact that there was NOT a lake there, a month ago. 😲

There are normally moo-cows grazing around here.

Not exactly a "surprise" lake. That is the Yolo By-pass. It's reason for existence - and the reason I-80, the bike path next to it, and the train tracks are elevated - is to be a overflow flood plain when the Sacramento River otherwise might not handle the water flow. It's been a few years since the By-pass has looked like that, but it performing as intended this year.

I'm in Berkeley, and DiabloScott is in Walnut Creek or thereabouts, so no. The Bay Area NorCal folks were very active here once upon a time, but not so much any more. Most of the folks from around here that I see on BF tend to be in the C&V subforum.

Well, I made it to Sausalito, no problem, then got my shoes wet here, on a flooded bike path, along the Redwood Highway. 🙄

At least I found some decent whole chocolate milk, to fuel up for that darn Golden Gate bridge. 😁

I mighta stopped down in Berkely, but you have to go through some scary neighborhoods, on the way. 😲😉

Well I need to complain about -- nah, it was calm, sunny, and 62*; a drop dead gorgeous day, and everyone was out, on foot and on bikes. So many dogs were walking their humans on the MUP; doggy grins and wagging tails were everywhere.

Later I took a nifty Jim Blackburn rack I picked up cheap to the (one and only) powdercoater to get a price to remove the thick purple paint; $20. Oy.

Greetings from the city of South San Francisco, just South of Daly City, & a little left of the airport. Actually, it's also right by Mount San Bruno, which I haven't tried climbing yet, lol. 😁

No complaints about the weather here, but we had a few chilly days & nights, as I passed through San Francisco proper recently. The worst of it was the wind, then it got pretty foggy for a couple mornings.

This was at Crissy Field, right by the GG bridge.
