How to transport a bike up to Crescent City from SF?
Hello all!
I have this somewhat crazy idea of flying over from Europe/Sweden to California and ride a bike from around the Oregon border down to San Francisco.
But elderly (soon 63) and really not thaaat fit and always like to camp in reasonably comfort I have not the smallest of tents and also always carry a small although lightweight chair and some other stuff to make life as good as possible
So I am thinking of renting so called cargo bike with electric pedal assist
I have found a company just north of SF where I can rent such a thing for a month, but how do I get myself and the bike up to say Crescent City or maybe Eureka?
Amtrak does not allow such “heavy” bikes and bikes with tires wider than 2”.
And on a Greyhound Bus the bike needs to be somewhat disassembled and packed in a flat box but the rental company was not that keen on having the bike taken apart - and I am not that certain I will be able to get it all back in one piece…
There does not seem to be any car ferries along the coast, and renting a car one-way seems impossible to Crescent City (Eureka might work) but rental cars does not have a trailer hitch to attach a bike mount to…
Any ideas?
Cheers from the Arctic Circle!

Perhaps renting a Uhaul pickup truck could work?
They are used to one way rentals and there are U-haul dealers in Crescent City.

What about buying a used ebike in Brookings/Crescent City and selling or donating it in SF?

True. There is a bike shop in Brookings; maybe they could help you out. Certainly worth a phone call.

You might find someone who makes the drive up that way. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I did this trip/ ride in 2010. Living in San Francisco, I rented a car at the SF airport, and drove it with my bike and gear to the Crescent City airport, where we dropped off the car and started the ride. Of course, it helped that I had a foldable Bike Friday tandem. Still, I think you could figure out a solution - perhaps an SUV, pickup truck, or minivan rental, perhaps with a regular car with an inexpensive trunk rack to carry the bike. (Trunk racks often carry 3 or even 4 bikes; seems a cargo bike would be in the same weight ballpark.) https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/...c_id=7203&v=Ci

Bike Friday makes e-bikes and you can take it home with you after you do the ride.
